I'd be shocked if Cal walks away from next year's UK team. That team may be the most talented squad he's ever had, and it'll actually have some veteran players. You're TC'ing a little too hard on this one.

He walked away from a surefire NC team in Memphis with the recruiting class he had signed...

You honestly think most any coach, but especially Cal, would turn down the Lakers job??? Seriously???? I dont care who he has coming in. He doesnt care who he has coming in.

I know he has said Kentucky is his dream job and where he wants to be, but seriously, I hope you arent between him and the airport when that call is finally made.

He walked away from the NCAA Executioner's axe in Memphis, lest we forget.

Yes, I think we're about to watch it happen. He's got it made at Kentucky right now. His system is in place, he's got #1 recruiting classes every season. He gets paid like 10 mil per year all included. He's pretty much got the NC locked up next season.

The Lakers job is excellent, but the timing for Cal is not. I bet he stays in KY.

Lakers look at replacements and the names coming up are Coach Cal, Coach K, Billy Donovan, Tom Izzo, and Kevin Ollie.....Guess they want to find someone in the college ranks and Coach Cal is playing it to the tee again.....Already coming out on his twitter shooting down rumors, that haven't come to full light yet.....Yea writing is on the wall and this thing has been in play for sometime now all but details no matter how they spin this thing.....He is all but gone to LA, and He knows it, and its coming sooner than UK fans care to think....And to MC and the others in dream land, think why would he leave, It is the Lakers, not just any NBA team but the Most Glorified team in the League, and Stars all around you....You think UK historic, well not as much as the Lakers and NBA is the top of the game.....He is all but gone, and everyone knows it.....The World Is Ours Memphis....

Why can't he take those players with him?

1. Convince them not to go in the draft.
2. Leave for LA.
3. Tell them go to the tryout camps.
4. LA signs Harrisons, Cauley-stein, Poy and Johnson for small bucks.

Everybody happy.

And we get Dantoni as Pastner's x and o's guy! Winners all around!!!

I swear that was my next post...I was just going to link the proof from Grantland..our favorite author dude. 04-rock

This is going to be a package deal! Mike is bringing Tim DiFrancesco (Lakers strength coach) with him. Also, Kobe sees the light at the end of the tunnel and when he retires he will come on board as an assistant too! ThE wOrld iS ouRs!

Yadda yadda yah. The Lakers is a swell gig, the best in the NBA. They still play by the same rules everyone else has. When Phil retired the Lakers gig held such panache that they went out and hired.... Mike Brown and Mike D'Antoni. ::Sad Trombone::

The Lakers is a great gig, but they're far from being able to hire whomever they want, whenever they want.

I bet Cal stays home on this one, much to our collective dismay.

I don't know...but think LA compared to Lex. The attention, the recognition, the publicity.....how can a man like Cal turn that down?

Last season was mostly a horror for him and his family till the time right before the end. LA is a better place to eat, to enjoy life and the whole family would get 'elevated' to celebrity status. Plus he would have at least a one year grace period.

KY can't offer even a one game grace period. He might be tired of the stench of burning couches.

Bottom line. If an offer comes his way, he's a fool not to get out of there..I don't care what the money is. Nothing lasts forever.

Didn't he turn down the Knicks gig two seasons ago? LA a bit better, but Cal is an East Coast guy. Perhaps the NBA isn't happening for him again.

ON the West Coast, nothing is taken quite so seriously. More leeway in your personal life. In LA LA land it's everyone living 'the dream'. He's a writer...they might make a movie of his life someday, but not if he lives in Lexington.

I should convince him to go. I can feel it's time for him to move on. lol

Would Miller leave Zona for UK?

At this point, would Zona be interested in Josh? I'm not convinced of either.

Yet another sign that history repeats. Aw comeon. Those ones with dreams got 'talked' into coming back.

If I were a family member, I would traumatize Cal with tantrums until he left.

I suppose there is the outside possibility that the NBA is not calling for his sorry ass---oops I meant covetable ass. How many of these opportunities is he gonna let pass him by, though?

Will this finally be the trap that catches his covetable ass. He can't stay there forever and do what he does. Enemies mount up till they spill over.
