you guys got the last vaguely gay has-been nba assistant coach retread that was literally run out of the NCAA for recruiting violations, and who's eligibility to coach was just recently restored.

ps. go phuck yourself.

RE: Doc Sadler hired as USM's New Basketball Coach
Remember guys Underwood turned us down. Not that I'm trying to take up for Sadler but Indont want a coach who doesn't want to be in Hattiesburg. I do hope Sadler works out.

So, with that in mind what are some pros and cons to Sadler? I want to be reasonable. I know he has a coaching percentage at like .582 or something.

I don't know anything Doc but I do hope it works out for USM in the long run. Do you think CUSA gets the top vote for craziest basketball coaching changes of all time now? LOL

He did a pretty good job at UTEP with the caveat that his recruting was not at a high level. You have a good x's and o's coach. Now watch to see who he hires as assistants and check their recruiting history. If they are good recruiters then you will have a solid future with Doc.

Nebraska has not won a regular season conference title since 1950. I'm not sure you can take much from his experiences there.

Sure we can. After he left, the new coach worked hard, recruited hard, and brought them to the NCAA tournament this year.

And Greg Heiar wanted the job badly, but we wouldn't give him the time of day because of his previous relation to Eustachy.

Then why is he no longer the HC at UTEP?

Nebraska hired him. He went 48-18 in two years there, they definitely didn't fire him.

I don't think that being associated with Eustacy- a man who was our coach and was very good at it - hurt Heiar's chances. If I'mwrong, then our AD is even worse than I thought.

RE: Doc Sadler hired as USM's New Basketball Coach
the problem isn't sadler. he was plan "b", and plan "b" is always a risk-averse, known quantity, "don't rock the boat" type of move. it is necessary for plan "b" to be other-than-bold because it is only employed after plan "a" blows the phuck up.

the problem is, "how did we get turned into the prime mover in underwood's grand plan to screw more money out of SFA"? how did we get that far down the road with a guy that was apparently on the fence to begin with? is there not a "would you accept this job if offered?" conversation early on in the process? how do you leak the news of the offer if there is any chance of getting hosed by a counter-offer?

this is the sort of unforced error I would have expected out of (hate to say it) the general, who is/was inexperienced in these sorts of matters, but not mcgillis, who is supposed to be a grizzled old veteran.

From all sources I've talked to, this is exactly the reason he wasn't given a shot. It took Eustachy 8 years to get us into postseason I believe. Most of our fanbase disliked him and wanted him gone. I don't know anyone who was sad to see him go. People associated with him apparently have a bad connotation in our athletic department, despite how opposite of him they may be.

With very few exceptions, I think there should be one basic premise in a coaching hire:

You want a guy whose career is in an upward trajectory.

That does not describe Sadler.

I miss Larry. He stayed 8 years, finally beat Tiger High, and got us to the tournament.

Yeah, he was a bit of a prick... who cares? People need to grow up. We're gonna need a few pricks to arrest the downward spiral.

If you are correct about what happened, then I'm surprised and disappointed, not because I think Heiar would have been a good hire, but bbecause I think it indicates that our leadership is even more petty and shortsighted than I thought... and that, sir, is saying something.

And his highest finish in conference was 7th. The only thing worse than his conference winning percentage at Nebraska is his postseason winning percentage.

RE: Doc Sadler hired as USM's New Basketball Coach
Here's a theory:

McGillis wanted Underboob but he turned us down

McGillis went to his second and third choices but they turned us down.

McGillis went to his fourth (?) choice and finally got a "yes."

If you subscribe to this theory, then the problem isn't "who", it' s "what" was being offered. My guess: around $400k total per year, with no firm plans for upgrading our arena.

If you subscribe to this theory, the failure still falls on McGillis, it's just a different failure. It's a failure to raise and spend money.

I said the other day that I'd give $1,000 toward any fundraising campaign McGillis cooked up (beyond "renew your Eagle Club membership" / John Cox autodialer). I have that money in my checking account many times over.

Just mail me (and everyone like me) a letter. Ask for $1,000 to upgrade our facilities and get into the AAC. Ask the students. We'll all listen. If you don't ask, and instead hire cheap coaches and run a cheap program, I'll just assume you're a tool of the SEC schools and that's how you got hired.

Yes, burger flipper w/ a B.S in Biochemistry (Magna *** laude) , not that there is anything wrong with burger flipping.

Sooo much butt hurt....and youll probably not be waking up anytime soon. Though I am not sure what you mean by not without a ticket.

I think he meant that your team can go to the NIT but they'll need to buy tickets because a bid will not be forthcoming.

Also, I love how the forum software censors "magna *** laude." All these years I've been sending people a resume with "***" on it.

butt hurt is as butt hurt does, a$$ pirate. I'm not the psychologically damaged little attention whore trolling the forum of the conference I "escaped" because I didn't get enough of my daddy's love when I was little (or, perhaps, too much of the wrong kind of daddy's love -- "no, daddy, don't touch me there!").

take a phukking hike. if you want to post a thread about our coaching woes, do it in your own phukking forum.

I've said this before; when a perfectly respectable and eminently functional word like "***" is overtaken by the pornographic movie industry, key elements of the social order have truly collapsed upon themselves*.

*that, or whoever manages the censored word list has serious issues. I guess it could go either way.
