Isn't that how it works now? ND consistently gets into bowls that they have no business being in based on TV ratings, which is why the continually lose those games.

Will he have time to come off the links to actually do anything with this committee?
And what does Condi Rice know about ranking teams? And why is Oliver Luck involved, wouldnt he be biased toward the Big12? You can go on and on with this list.
Call me crazy but I trust Condi Rice to be more objective than certain ADs and former coaches. I have a feeling there will be a lot of "I am going to rank this team higher because I know the coach" going on.

So, basically, we are going to have a new poll which just represents the opinions of a much smaller number of voters. Why are their opinions going to be any better than any of the other polls? I agree with those who think this is just a made for TV exercise. It won't generate any less, or more, controversy than any other process for picking bowl teams has.

Yeah, I have no doubts that they are going to "mirror" each other over time. Then by the time we add in the "echo chamber" of 24/7 ESPN talking heads, we're going to get a whole lot of "group think" going on here.
I must say, this process disappoints me. I was hoping that the committee would meet ONCE AND ONLY ONCE. Each committee member could generate their own independent thoughts prior to that single meeting. Then they could debate and hash it out over the course of a single weekend. One meeting, and that would be that.
The AP and Coaches poll used to have a fair number of differences. In the last 15 years, they have gotten more and more similar. Its most common to see just one or two teams causing almost all the differences in the polls. For example the coaches might vote Mississippi St. #15 and the AP #20 with everyone else in the same order.

I agree. I think Rice will be as knowledgeable as anyone on the committee.

But not objective. She works at Stanford and reportedly arranges her fall travel schedule around Stanford road games. And she grew up in Alabama rooting for the Tide.

Mike Tranghese is on the committee. Has anyone told him it's for football and not basketball?

Quote:The official College Football Playoff Selection Committee Voting Protocol:
1. Each committee member will create a list of the 25 teams he or she believes to be the best in the country, in no particular order. Teams listed by more than three members will remain under consideration.
2. Each member will list the best six teams, in no particular order. The six teams receiving the most votes will comprise the pool for the first seeding ballot.
3. In the first seeding ballot, each member will rank those six teams, one through six, with one being the best. The three teams receiving the fewest points will become the top three seeds. The three teams that were not seeded will be held over for the next seeding ballot.
4. Each member will list the six best remaining teams, in no particular order. The three teams receiving the most votes will be added to the three teams held over to comprise the next seeding ballot.
5. Steps No. 3 and 4 will be repeated until 25 teams have been seeded.
Anyone feel like drafting an example of how that may have worked last year? I may or may not be following this correctly.
In a nutshell it boils down to whichever team appears the most times + a seeding step. Determines the 4 teams and the seeding. Not really as complex as it sounds.
