Communiversity Garden to break ground
http://www.niutoday.info/2014/04/30/comm...und-may-8/

"The university is providing a 22,000-square-foot area on the east side of Anderson Hall for the garden"

Kinda confused how they want the students to be involved immediately when graduation is on the 9th and 10th.

I think this would work great if Gilbert was open in the Summer...does anyone know if it is?

Gilbert is not open during the summer. New Hall and Stevenson are open to summer housing contracts

22 THOUSAND Sq. Ft. garden?! Jeez...that is one huge garden. And a lot of work. They'll need a lot of people to get involved & stay involved.
Cool idea if they can pull it off.

President Baker knows what he is doing. He is trying to create a true "communiversity". The problem he faces is that he is dealing with a very conservative community that has always been wary of NIU. He has the support of the mayor, but this will be a continuous sell job....and it will not be easy.

My sense is that the old NIU hating faction of townies has shrunk to the point of irrelevance and is literally dying off. The first big sign being when Van Buer was voted mayor.

Getting students involved will be tough just by nature of gardening season, but it's a chance to bring the community to NIU. And maybe some grad students will get in on this.
