I don't trust those NY numbers either. My gay brother in NYC probably could get me a much more accurate number. Must be something in the water in South Dakota.

Your response got me curious so I started hunting around a bit. It would seem 4% is probably about right. They sure do make a lot of noise for such a small percentage of people, don't they?
The below map of the percentage of gays per state was taken from here. California surprised me.
Some of those states being lower is probably due to conservative population and enhanced desire to stay in the closet. Im more inclined to go with more liberal state percentages. Figuring you still have closeted folks in those, a large amount being unreported lesbians.... maybe 6.5-7% ? I see 10% thrown around a lot but that seems high.
Depends on the generation. I actually think 10% might be low for the under 25 crowd.
