Just curious but here are the top 20 highest grossing movies of all time:

1) Avatar(2009)…$2,782,275,172

3) Marvel's The Avengers(2012)…$1,518,594,910
4) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2(2011)…$1,341,511,219
5) Iron Man 3(2013)…$1,215,439,994
6) Frozen(2013)…$1,143,737,000
7) Transformers: Dark of the Moon(2011)…$1,123,794,079
8) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King(2003)…$1,119,929,521
9) Skyfall(2012)…$1,108,561,013

12) Toy Story 3(2010)…$1,063,171,911
13) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides(2011)…$1,045,713,802
14) Jurassic Park(1993)…$1,029,153,882
15) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace(1999)…$1,027,044,677
16) Alice in Wonderland(2010)…$1,024,299,904

19) The Lion King(1994)…$987,483,777
20) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone(2001)…$974,755,371

However, the truer picture (pardon the pun) adjusts for inflation for the top 10:

1) Gone with the Wind(1939)...$3,301,400,000
2) Avatar(2009)...$2,782,300,000

1) Avatar(2009)…$2,782,275,172
Saw it and didn't get what the big deal was. It was like Cameron took Alien, Terminator, and a few other of his franchises and remixed them together and got the 3D bug.
2) Titanic(1997)…$2,186,772,302
I thought the movie was decent but I think the forced love story kind of hurt its potential to me.
3) Marvel's The Avengers(2012)…$1,518,594,910
Darn near the perfect mix of action, drama, and comedy.
4) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2(2011)…$1,341,511,219
Good movie, but not my favorite in the series.
5) Iron Man 3(2013)…$1,215,439,994
Worst of the 3 Iron Man movies.
6) Frozen(2013)…$1,143,737,000
7) Transformers: Dark of the Moon(2011)…$1,123,794,079
Best of the first three IMO.
8) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King(2003)…$1,119,929,521
Good movie, but I think he could have tightened it up. That said, the Director Cut was WAY LONG...its like if I want to watch these I have to do it on a day off.
9) Skyfall(2012)…$1,108,561,013
A great entry into the Bond series. I liked a lot of the "historical" set ups they got into and I thought the villain had a good angle on taking down MI6
10) The Dark Knight Rises(2012)…$1,084,439,099
Nolan's best Batman. Created a legit debate between the best versions of The Joker.
11) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest(2006)…$1,066,179,725
I liked the trilogy, but it got mired down too much by all the love story angles.
12) Toy Story 3(2010)…$1,063,171,911
Loved the CGI in this and it proved that Pixar still had it for this franchise. Lots O Huggin Bear was almost as good of a villain as Sid from the first one.
13) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides(2011)…$1,045,713,802
A solid 4th entry. THey did a good job making Blackbeard the badass he was.
14) Jurassic Park(1993)…$1,029,153,882
A great movie. 2nd one was ok till they left the island. 3rd...well...
15) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace(1999)…$1,027,044,677
Not my favorite in the series even though I thought Darth Maul was a EPIC BAD ASS, only to go out like a ***** at the final fight.
16) Alice in Wonderland(2010)…$1,024,299,904
I liked the darker story and I thought Depp did a good job as the Mad Hatter but I wouldn't own it.
17) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey(2012)…$1,017,003,568
good but way to drawn out
18) The Dark Knight(2008)…$1,004,558,444
A great reboot of a downtrodden franchise
19) The Lion King(1994)…$987,483,777
Probably one of my favorite animated movies
20) Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone(2001)…$974,755,371
A solid movie

However, the truer picture (pardon the pun) adjusts for inflation for the top 10:

1) Gone with the Wind(1939)...$3,301,400,000
I ought to re watch this as I think I have only seen it once about 20 years ago
2) Avatar(2009)...$2,782,300,000
3) Star Wars(1977)...$2,710,800,000
A great sci fi action movie for those wanting something less cerebral than Star Trek.
4) Titanic(1997)...$2,413,800,000
5) The Sound of Music(1965)...$2,269,800,000
I actually enjoyed this movie but haven't watched it in a while
6) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial(1982)...$2,216,800,000
Saw it the first time when it was originally released as a field trip with my grade school. I have the DLX edition on Blu Ray now.
7) The Ten Commandments(1956)...$2,098,600,000
Shockingly, I don't think I have seen this all the way through
8) Doctor Zhivago(1965)...$1,988,600,000
9) Jaws(1975)...$1,945,100,000
I loved the movie...too bad I think the sequels went on further than they needed to.
10) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs(1937)...$1,746,100,000
The Evil Queen was a legit bad ass villain. The end was pretty dark for a Disney movie.

Thoughts on the ones I have seen.

RE: Highest Grossing Movies Of All Time
I got tired of Iron Man halfway through the first movie. The writing quality suffers exponentially with the number increase.

adjusted for inflation is a stupid measurement. they should be adjusted for ticket value at the time when discussing money. titanic blew away those other movies in stats like repeat viewer, weeks at #1, and tickets ==> how this is even debatable is beyond me.

I'm so guilty of being a repeat viewer. Saw it 3 times in the theatres. I was 16 when it came out.

When I saw Avatar in 3D I thought it was brilliant. A re-watch on television revealed what a relatively weak story it was. Doctor Zhivago is the only one on either list that I have not seen.
