Breaking News - NY Yankees franchise crumbling
I watched last night's NY Yankees' game against the LA angels o FS1. I couldn't believe that the Yankees had sunk to broadcasting games on FS1.

No doubt this is a harbinger of disaster for this once. Proud franchise. I expect that this is the beginning of the end for them and we will soon be hearing reports that the franchise is folding and going out of business.

As we are all well aware, no sports entity can survive - much less thrive - when their games are being broadcast on FS1.

Melky there are a handful of differences between the Big East's FS1 deal and the New York Yankees and MLB playing on FS1.

1. Yankees are not playing every game on FS1. If they were that would be a huge boost to a network that needs high level content.

2. The Yankees are an established brand that they could play games on any network and draw solid ratings. The might be the strongest brand in American sports.

3. Baseball's revenue model is different than college basketball.

4. The Big East, the weakened version created by the C7 doesn't have the TV fan bases or enough big TV brands to build FS1.

5. Baseball's TV deals are local in nature and fans usually don't watch teams other than their own play. Major college conference have national TV deals. Fans of college sports tend to watch their own team, rivals, and the major brands play.

6. Baseball has 162 regular season games, college basketball has 31, college football has 12.

FS1 and the Big East made a deal that is bad on both ends. The Big East's audience is dropping and FS1 isn't building their brand. If FS1 can get the Big Ten that helps FS1, but it also might help the Big East if more people watch that network; however, they could bump the Big East into crummy spots on FS2 and FS1, while the Big Ten, Big XII, and PAC-12 get top picks.

The C7 schools should have stuck with ESPN and FS1 needs the Big Ten or the NFL to draw better numbers.

Fox bought the YES network. The Yankees have more money than God. They'll be just fine. Do ever do anything other than whine and cry wolf?[/b]

Why is a UConn fan a Big East troll? I don't get it.

You gave this much more attention that it deserved. It wasn't even very good trolling, as far as the genre goes.

the Yankee's on FS1 is a totally different universe vs St Johns, Depaul, and a bunch of tiny catholic schools playing basketball on Fs1...but nice try

I'm not sure the OPer understands that ALL Fox Saturday games of the week are on FS1! If he did, he'd know it's something they started this year.

OP knows. He's having a poke at those who cried doom and gloom for the Big East on FS1, that we made a fatal error in consigning ourselves to the viewerless desert of FoxSports1.

He's continuing his BE crusade, although the point he ultimately makes is that BE basketball is pathetic. You see, there are some sports on FS1 that are doing well. Last I heard, anything speed related was killing it over on FS1. But not BE basketall. It's not necessarily FS1 thats the problem; it's BE basketball thats the problem. I'm not sure Melty will be happy pointing that fact out, but thats essentially what he's saying. (Whether he likes it or not)

With that said, the teams of the AAC could probably do well on FS1. I'm glad to be where we are, but I dont think FS1 is most of the problem. The BE teams, and their lack of fan support, is the problem.

You are probably right. Aresco is the dominant one.

really are you that stupid. Even with the game on FS1 yesterday, do you know where they were tonight? That's right on ESPN. The Big East was stupid as hell putting all their eggs in the FS1 bucket. The C7 was more worried about money than anything else, and it's a mistake that could very easily come back to bite them in the ass. Not having ESPN exposure is foolish in this day and age. And just spare me that fox will build up FS1. by the time they could get the properties they would need to build it up- 2 things- 1st the contract would be halfway over at least- and 2- the number of Big East games that would be televised would go down dramatically on FS1. So looking at FS2 or regional sports networks. That's just not comparable to what the AAC has being on the ESPN networks. Big East would have been smarter to take half the money and be on ESPN.

I think it's kind of both. I think the problem the Big East faces on FS1 is that a majority of FS1's programming is speed along with UFC. Not exactly mainstream sports. The ones that watch that aren't watching in general much college basketball. FS1 just doesn't have enough mainstream programming to get cross-over appeal.

The Yankees are on FS1 now? No doubt they'll be sold off to another city within 7 or 8 years. Just like Melky Cabrera was traded around after his stint in ny.
