The g5 should just give up trying to chase the p5. What was once possible will swiftly become impossible.

I know its a hard pill to swallow. But why assist the p5 in ruining college sports.

the g5 should say no and let the p5 split if they wish.
if that happens never play the p5 in any sport make it a complete split.

The G5 has been chasing the P5 for decades. And occasionally catching them, winning a national championship here and there. That won't change, ever.

Ummm I disagree!

The Division 1 split with (A/AA or FBS/FCS) happened in the late 1970's... TV contracts went to conferences in the mid-80's... Big East added football 1991... SEC was first to expand to get a conference championship game in 1992... Football Bowl Alliance started in 1995 to get the top two teams to play for a national championship... The BCS and the AQ Conferences didn't start until 1998 with ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC, SEC... The AQ Six became the P5 in 2013-14.

In the SIXTEEN YEARS since creating the "have" and "have not" conferences it went from competitive to the extremes -- solely based on the exploding money of TV contracts the "haves" have seen since the beginning of the BCS era.

Semantics. There were haves and have-nots before the BCS, although the money gap has widened. The point remains that the less well off aren't going to lay down and give up. Some will be satisfied to be relegated to a lower division but many will not. They will continue to compete.

This paragraph is interesting:

"One item seemingly missing in the governance system redesign was how all the new financial distribution will be policed. The Big Five lay claim not only to most of the money flowing through college sports but also the majority of the cheating. The Big Five believe the new governance structure will allow them to thin the rule book and make enforcement easier, but those concerns haven’t been addressed."

Does anyone really think that "easier" is the right word?

The ncaa (P5) should take this opportunity to have enforcement farmed to an outside entity. Enforcement should have never been done within the ncaa.

If almost everything is legal them it should be much easier.
the gap between the p5 and g5 is going to begin growing at an exponential rate.
the g5 will never again even begin to catch up.

That's not necessarily true.

UConn has a bigger athletic budget than a number of P5 schools. There are also a list of others that under the correct conditions could SERIOUSLY improve over time.

UMD are making a ton of money - but they're servicing too much debt to be able to "expand" and become greater than ECU (for instance).
