RE: P 6 after this year
Not until we sign a new media contract and a contract with an access bowl. Also......a new hurdle was created.......we need to also be included in the autonomy group. If and only if we did great OOC and had 5 more years like last without anyone getting poached......then it is possible.

Also we have to build the size of our fan base. Really, that's what separates us. We could be better than the Big Ten top-to-bottom on the field and on the court, but as long as they are putting 80-100K in the stands, TV/media will love them.

The exposure was the first BIG piece.
The old big east made nothing when they first started with ESPN, and produced their own games. But it was the exposure that made them.
P5, P6... All of that jargon is just a year old...

The P is about exclusion, not inclusion. The American isn't gonna join the club.

RE: P 6 after this year
Right. Exclusion and consolidation of power.

For example, we'll never again have the chance to say:

"We beat the Big 12 Champ"

Because we won't ever get to play a P5 Champ again. Unless some miracle happens and we make the 4-team playoff.

In our access bowls, we'll play the #2 or #3 teams from P5 leagues. Puts us in a bit of a no-win situation. If we win the bowl, they'll say "Yeah, but that wasn't even the [insert P5 league here]'s best team."

And if we lose the bowl, they'll say "Look, the 2nd or 3rd best team in the [insert P5 league here] is better than anybody in the G5."

RE: P 6 after this year
If you've got a chart hanging in your bedroom that compares TV media deals among conferences... you'll never be happy.

If you care about winning BCS bowls and Nat Championships, you should be very happy this year.

Everything else is just semantics.

FWIW, I think most of us really expect our media situation is a temporary dip based on the realignment circumstances. It will get much better, TV within 2-3 years when we renegotiate, Bowls at next cycle.

We do need to keep up the winning though...

It's purple Koolaid...however we have beaten all of those teams and owned USC in the 90's. Beat Vt in Charlotte in front of 72k when they were 8
In nation...it can happen and we are loaded this year contrary to what some think...

I'm just enjoying being Man of the Year. The AAC has stood out this year and no conference can expect more than that.

This past year, the AAC was in fact a Power conference, BCS-AQ, and we had the results of Louisville, one of the 10 best athletic programs in the country the past 5 years, in our major sports column.

Neither will be true next year. That's when the "AAC" really starts as a conference.

Did Louisville win the BCS bowl? Did Louisville win the NCAA Men's Tourney? Did Louisville win the NCAA Women's tournament? I must have missed those.

THE KEY, THE KEY, AGAIN THE KEY to gaining long-term money and access is being the conference with the team that automatically is granted a spot to one of the six major bowls YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR.....To get respect, the AAC must separate itself from the other four conferences in the G5.

Women's basketball? Meaningless in the big picture, you might as well mention hockey or baseball. It's all about men's basketball and football, those are the Major sports (amazing that this even has to be stated ...).

And in men's basketball, Louisville was the AAC champions and made the Sweet 16, our second-best national result.

In football, they were ranked every week of the season, nine more than any other AAC school, finished second in the conference, and had the best OOC results, which count more nationally than anything else.

Considering the two major sports together, Louisville was easily the best overall AAC performer, they were the only program nationally relevant in both, and they were relevant in both start to finish, which nobody else was even close to being.

They didn't hold up the two trophies that mattered in this equation.
They were our runner-up.
Next year, we'll have a new runner-up. But the MAIN AAC programs in both "major" sports are still here. The flagbearers are still here.
Louisville is losing Strong and Bridgewater. They more than likely wouldn't have surpassed ECU next year. You should know about ECU. They were the school you pretended to be a fan of last year, using one of your many sock puppet aliases.

As for basketball, THE LAST THING the AAC needs to worry about is HOOPS. Remember thy name... MUDIAY.

Between East Carolina and Navy, we won't miss Louisville and Rutgers in football too much.

We'll miss Louisville basketball.

RE: P 6 after this year
Quo, No one is saying that losing Louisville won't be missed but here are facts that you seem to convinently forget.

UCF beat Louisvilke in football went to the BCS bowl , won and finished higher ranked than the Cards. They are BACK in 2014

UConn WON the National championship NOT UL and they will be back in 2014

Now had UL won both football and basketball as they did in 2012. You would be the first one here saying our champs will not return in 2014

The facts are Quo that you want to give this league the least amount of props you can while constantly highlighting its weaknesses.

Most of the fans on this board KNOW full well we aren't in the P5 but realize that as long as we are outside of that group being in the BEST G5 conference with the most success will translate into the best money, exposure and chances to move up for our schools.

And yes I realize that as a USF fan it's our school success that matters most but being in the AAC the best G5 conference will do more for my school's success to be noticed by the P5 than being a dominant program in the Sun Belt.
