3 dead, 23 wounded in first 10 hours of Chicago weekend
How will violating my 2nd Amendment rights correct this problem in Chicago? All that will happen is my gun and means of self defense will be taken away and these 26 people who were shot would still have been shot.

Quote:Three people are dead and at least 23 others are wounded in Chicago after a span of roughly 10 hours.

The most recent fatal shooting happened early Saturday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, killing a 17-year-old boy.

Jaquez Williams was standing in the 5500 block of West North Avenue about 2 a.m. when an unknown person approached him and shot him in the head, authorities said.

Williams, who lived about a block away, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:35 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

About 45 minutes earlier, a man was killed and a woman was wounded after a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The two were inside a home in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue when someone outside opened fire.

Martarvian Emery, 21, was inside the kitchen area at the time and was shot in the chest, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

A 19-year-old also inside suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in “stable” condition, police said.

Late Friday, a 32-year-old woman was fatally shot in the West Pullman neighborhood.

Police found Leonore Draper inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to her arm in 1300 block of West 116th Street, where officers originally heard gunshots, authorities said.

Draper, of the same block, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Also early Saturday, four people were wounded — two critically—after they were shot in an SUV in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A vehicle pulled up to a parked Honda Element about 1:50 a.m., near the corner of 42nd Street and Fairfield Avenue, police on the scene said. Someone in the unknown vehicle opened fire at the Honda, injuring four of at least five people inside — all thought to be men, police on the scene said.

One of the injured men got out of the Honda and ran north on Fairfield Avenue, where he was later picked up by an ambulance, police said. Two others remained inside the vehicle while another man fled, but later returned to the scene shortly after.

According to police, a 20-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A bullet grazed a 23-year-old’s left shoulder. That person is in good condition.

Another man, also 23, was shot in the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A fourth person, 27, was shot in his left shoulder and also taken to Stroger, police added.

Earlier Friday, two teenage boys--ages 16 and 17--were sitting in a vehicle near the intersection of 31st Street and South Drake Avenue at 10:10 p.m. when someone walked in front of the car, flashed gang signs and fired shots at the pair, police said.

The 16-year-old was shot in the back of the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Sullivan said.

The 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to his ear and was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition, police said. Both the boys are documented gang members and the shooting was gang-related, according to police.

At least 16 others have been shot since 7:15 p.m. Friday evening, with the most recent happening about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, when a man walked into Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

The 19-year-old man told police he had been shot while riding in a car downtown in the 1200 block of South Lake Shore Drive. A minivan pulled up alongside the vehicle he was in and someone inside fired shots, he told police.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as Area detectives investigate.
