Rice vs. USM (Friday Game 1)
At least some good news-- looks like both Ewing and Teykl made it to Hattiesburg in time for tonight's game...

Quote:Rice's starting lineup vs USM: Cook rf; Warren cf; Reeves c; Ewing 1b; McDowell dh; Hoelscher 3b; Teykl 2b; Aquino lf; Stainback ss;

Play ball!

Cook struck out on three pitches. Not the start we wanted.
Warren singles. Runner on 1B, one out.
Reeves grounded into easy 6-4-3 double play.
We have now hit into 46 double plays on the season (11 more than we've turned).

Scoreless heading to the bottom of the first inning.

RE: Rice vs. USM (Friday Game 1)
Kevin gets himself into and out of trouble, stranding a leadoff runner at 2B (aingle, wild pitch, stirkeoutK, two fly outs).

Ewing ground out.
McDowell struck out looking.
Hoelscher first pitch single. Runner on 1B, two outs.
Teykl flied out to LF.
Teykl apparently took an exam this morning at 9:00am, and took a plane to Jackson, leaving Houston at 12:30pm.

Scoreless heading to the bottom of the second inning.

Double plays happen. Rice has at best average team speed. Rice tends to go up the middle, which is where the infielders are with a runner on first. Also, Rice has seemingly ran into a lot of line drive double plays due to base running errors. No mystery. Also, we don't turn as many double plays because our pitchers strike so many more batters out, leaving fewer opportunities for the ground ball double play. Of course this is just my opinion.

Ford hits a one out double. Maybe he should always have a hurt foot?

1-2-3 inning for Kevin (strikeoutKK, two fly outs).

Aquino ground out to C.
Stainback standup, first pitch double (actually a bit misplayed by OFer). Looks like they changed the scoring to an E-7.
Cook grounded out to SS on 3-1 pitch. Runner on 2B, two outs. And by not hitting to right side (situational hitting) we once again fail to move the runner to 3B.
Warren ground out to 1B.
Very sluggish start once again for the Owls offense.

Scoreless heading to the bottom of the third inning.

Cruel hometown scorekeeper.

I am listening to JP while I finish up a few things and I didn't hear him mention the change. He might have, as I am not giving the game 100%.

We also get on base more, which gives us more opportunities to hit into double plays than our opponents, and that's not opinion.

I think you are correct. I hadn't thought of that...

Listening to JP paint a picture of the right field line in Hattiesburg leaves me with the idea that he might be an impressionist painter...

The background noise would lead you to believe he is capable of making some calls that the local fans will not agree with. It seems there are some disgruntled fans each at bat.

Bases juiced, no outs. I am feeling pretty gruntled.

Someone hit a ball to 1b and McDowell has tagged out at home on the next play.
