I never really take these seriously. They weight sports such as fencing and skiing (which I dont think any AAC school has) the same as basketball.

That's because the Director's Cup is for the best Overall athletics department, not just football and basketball.

There's an interesting relegation(soccer term) battle brewing at the bottom between USF and Tulane

You're absolutely right. Aresco's goal should be to get every team in the Top 100 and lay out tailored roadmaps for them to get there. We can't just hope our schools get better.

It should be each ADs job to get his or her school into the top 100. Hire good coaches and commit the resources that are needed.

Aresco? How about the ADs of the various schools? Since the rankings go 1-260 ... some of those do look pretty bad.

So much for the popular belief (within this forum) that Memphis adds nothing to the conference except good basketball. Wait until we get football fixed (and we will).

I think playing a lot of sports has also helped UConn.

Right -- never confuse some of the propaganda within this forum with reality.

So Memphis is good in basketball and a bunch of sports that don't matter. Congrats! 04-cheers

No, I think it's more than that --- it provides a snapshot of the overall health of your athletic program. That you're not some one trick pony pouring all your resources into one or two sports. And as far as Memphis football --- I hope, as a UCF fan, that you noticed Memphis' real progress these last two years. Especially after UCF's last minute escape against that football team last year. 03-wink

The solution obviously is to add sports nobody else plays so you can always be national champions.

RE: Director's Cup Winter Standings
UCF might want to focus on a winter sport or two. 0 Winter points. We were up by Ohio State in the fall. Spring should be good for UCF as well with Baseball (1st in AAC and Ranked in at least one poll), Softball (1st in AAC) and Men's Golf (I assume golf is rated and ranked #7 in the nation.

If UCONN and Memphis focus on Football
UCF focus on Basketball, we are/were terrible.
Cincy improve Baseball, but keep Football and Basketball killin it.

We have 4 Really "Core" teams in the Conference. No hate to anyone else, I just can't root for USF in any way...sorry and the newbies ECU, Tulsa, Tulane I haven't seen in the AAC yet.

I think Temple and Houston can have a breakthrough, I just think it's a tougher road then the 4 above IMHO.

RE: Director's Cup Winter Standings
Houston has alot of work to do. Right now, we're killing it in the late spring sports (baseball, softball, golf, w. tennis). Basketball (men and women) are hurting us badly, and football was solid. If we can improve in football a bit more this season, and Sampson can deliver for our men's hoops, I feel like we can crack the top-100 easily next year.

Not bad for SMU considering the few D-I sports we compete in. Spring is a killer for us with no Baseball/Softball. Should improve next year with Bball rising.
