Why not take care if the $hit we have. We were given a great gift, the earth. The human race is like a 16 year old who drives their car for thousands of miles without doing the proper maintenance. This shouldn't be a left or a right winged issue really...it's in our nature to survive and advance. We should be able to do that with what we have...

His comment was no more stupid than when Gingrich promised a Manned mars mission during the last primaries....

We have more important things to deal with than Mars exploration right now.

No sh!t, but if we deal with the more important things, Bolden's agency doesn't get cash thrown at it and his agency isn't as powerful. An agency head with grandiose plans and wanting more money, what a surprise.

Except we had the capability before Obama came around... so does that make you "stupid" for thinking it not possible when it clearly is/was?

Yet another embarrassment for this administration.

The painful thing is that I beleive we have dropped the ball on space but our current spending in other areas makes it impossible to pick back up.

He is wrong for saying it's "necessary if the human race is to survive." which implies we need to get there in our lifetimes. But I do think we should have a station on the moon and not settle for some cobbled together international nightmare in low earth orbit.

We have to get farther away from the sun than Mars if the human race is to survive.

Actually, not sure if an expanding sun would reach Mars now that I think about it. Even if it doesn't reach Mars I'd imagine it would be too hot to survive there. So, sure, Io it is! (Disclaimer: I am not a planetary scientist)

This planet has been around for billions of years. Humans have been around for thousands. We've known how to fly for less that 150 years and we're all going to perish if we don't go to Mars by 2030? What's there that could save us?

Jerry, Was a manned mars mission REALLY that important to try to bring up as a campaign point?

No...
