A little late, but some season ending basketball stat rankings
Finally had some free time to so some stats on the end of the basketball season. I decided to compare this seasons stats with previous seasons. (And these are not "some stats I got out of a book" as I have recently been accused. These were compiled by me.

1. UAB shot 41.7% from the field in 2013-14. This is the fifth lowest percentage in our history

1994-95 - 40.3%
1996-97 - 40.6%
1995-96 - 40.9%
1999-00 - 41.6%
2013-14 - 41.7%

2. UAB shot 30.1% from three point range. This was our second lowest percentage behind the 1994-95 season when UAB shot 29.3%

3. Naturally with all that bad shooting, it was our best rebounding year ever. Blazers grabbed 1381 boards, surpassing the record of 1341 set in 1997-98

UAB also had the best rebounding average with 44.5 per game, surpassing the 43.1 per game in 1994-95

4. Surprisingly in a year where refs called more fouls, UAB had the fifth fewest fouls ever with 543 called.

494 - 2011-12
514 - 2010-11
519 - 1993-94
523 - 2006-07
543 - 2013-14

5. UAB stole the ball the fourth fewest times in its history with 169 steals.

136 - 2011-12
164 - 2010-11
164 - 1978-79
169 - 2013-14

Yepper. I predict a 6% improvement next year.

I wondered several times last season if our unwillingness to foul contributed to some of our opponents having very high shooting percentages against us. Sometimes it seems like it's better to commit a few more fouls early in the game to break up the opponents rhythm.

03-idea

Good thought. Would you have described this past UAB squad as a physical team? At the right times? We rebounded, but were we really rough and hard-shouldered? Fouling smart? Going hard at opponents with the hot hand? Messing 'em up? Stopping a streak?
Any damn thing to stop the rain of threes that seemed to fall on us.

Early in the season, I thought we played more physically and aggressively. I felt that was the reason we won the UNC game. Our tenacity on both ends of the floor hid the athletic deficiencies around the perimeter. For whatever reason, we hit a buzzsaw in the early part of conference play and never recovered. Maybe we lost confidence or were too tired, but it seemed like the team wasn't playing with the same edge.
