It's time again for one of my favorite annual events here in the 'Ham. The Gumbo Gala is the primary fundraiser for Episcopal Place, the local diocese's home for the elderly and disabled. It happens this Saturday the 26th at Sloss Furnace, running from 11am till 2pm, but you really do want to get there early as the best gumbo pots get eaten up on the early side of the day. People find the stuff they really like and go back for seconds, and thirds... it gets gone and it's not like you can just whip up more. >grin<
There will be about 40 booths, both amateur and professional (local restaurant) entries. It's all you can eat. Belly up to a booth, fill your cup, eat it, move down a booth, rinse, repeat. Live music from Rollin' in the Hay. Bring a folding chair and a cooler and chow down. You'll see all kinds of gumbo, from traditional seafood shrimp, oyster and crab, to chicken, andouille sausage to more exotic like duck gumbo, there will be a lot to taste and enjoy. Family friendly and a lot of fun, y'all come!
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, all you can eat. Best deal in town.
Personally, I eat till I can barely waddle back to the car. It's a good time.
