I don't mind a new subdivision that houses the big money generating programs. I would like to see a means of access outside of having to join one of those conferences however. BYU, Cincinnati, and so on aren't far off from the AQ level where as teams like Wake Forest, Purdue, Mississippi State, Rutgers and so on just get pulled along because of historical affiliation or because they're in a valued media market. There needs to be a way for schools who want to make a larger commitment to get to that level.

That move would effectively make WMU, the MAC, Sun Belt and so on D1aa.

Well for the MAC I don't believe the schools will be able to afford the same payouts the Big 5 are talking about ie additional stipends to athletes or if so it will be a much smaller scale. This will disadvantage us recruiting wise so we are back to what the MAC has always been true athletic scholars as opposed to a minor league for the pros complete with bag men and cheating.

Actually I'm sure the Big 5 will hog more TV exposure for their own networks which may up MAC TV $ and exposure ie ESPN. Lots of channels and lots of programming to fill.

They should just call it, "the NFL farm team conference" and be done with it.

It's only a matter of time.

I do wonder what that might do to the 85 limit on scholarships. They would still have to be Title IX compliant which would mean that adding 30 scholarships would really mean adding 65 when factoring in gender equity, but it could be very impactful if they upped the limit or eliminated it entirely.

There are numerous programs in the Big 5 arena that will struggle mightily with the financing end of this power grab. For instance, lower end teams in the Big 14 don't have the resources that a UofM or OSU have.... I think this creates a permanent under class in each of these conferences...

The Big 5 is Penn, Villanova, St. Joes, La Salle and Temple. I don't know who these a55holes calling themselves the Big 5 are. And the rest of you should stop calling them that as well.

Just call them the conglomerate of money grubbing whores.
