CBO: Newly Enrolled in ZeroCare only 2 to 3 million people 42 Million still Uninsured
Congressional Budget Office projections on ObamaCare raise questions about future enrollment

Time for another Victory Lap.

Quote:President Obama and other officials like to point to projections by the Congressional Budget Office to show that ObamaCare "is working," as the president put it.

He said 8 million have enrolled in the federal exchanges, but the CBO said in a recent report only 6 million are newly insured and some say even fewer than that did not have prior insurance.

"Twenty to 33 percent are actually newly insured and out of 8 million, that would be no more than 2 to 3 million people," said David Hogberg of National Center for Public Policy Research in Washington.

That is why the CBO showed that at the end of this year, there will still be 42 million uninsured and 31 million without insurance ten years from now.

According to your link the CBO put the number at 6 million, not 2-3 million. You might want to correct your headline.

Just read this. I can't wait to see how quickly Obamacare supporters will discount the information presented. I just don't understand how anybody, even the administration, thinks that they can claim Obamacare is 'working'.

Correct, the CBO put the number at 6 million, but you are conveniently dismissing the assessment from the National Center for Public Policy Research that places it at 2-3 million.

Let's address the real issue of the clouded "success" of Obamacare instead of the wording of thread titles.

Leftists still don't understand that health insurance is not the same as health care.

In fact, the current gubernatorial race in MD proves that point.

I didn't conveniently dismiss it, just pointed out an obvious misrepresentation. The article does conveniently omit the 5 million enrolled in expanded Medicaid.

Obamacare wasn't sold to the American public for the meficaid expansion. If it's success is now being judged on the Medicaid expansion, obamacare is an even bigger failure than imaginable.

I would have to disagree with that. Medicaid expansion has always been an important component of the ACA. All the ways that the ACA results in bringing more people into the ranks of the insured have to be factored in.

As it is, in it's current state, and as described or "sold" to the American public, can you provide any evidence that it is working?
I know there are tons of stats from both sides arguing its success and failure, but just step back for a moment and look at it as a whole. What has been the biggest benefit? At what cost was that benefit attained? Do initial estimates of enrollees meet the predetermined requirements to keep the legislation on target cost wise? The simple fact that the administration is not forthcoming with data regarding enrollees and paid premiums should cast serious doubt about whether or not the program is sustainable. If it is "working" let's see the data. Finding out how many enrollees have paid is as simple as asking. So is providing the demographics on those enrollees to know if they are from the intended market of the previously uninsured, or are merely replacing insurance that was dropped due to Obamacare.

At this point I have absolutely no problem stating that Obamacare is not working as advertised. If this were a product for sale in the private market and I were an investor, I would have serious questions about whether or not I would continue to fund development based on initial results.

The Rand survey is one place to start if you want to see some data indicating that it is working. In their study that concluded before enrollment was complete they estimated that there was a net gain in coverage of 9.3 million adults as of mid March. Notice that that is adults, so the net gain would have to be higher when those under 18 are included.

Yes we understand your point. Medicaid is a government program that provides health care coverage to low income citizens and you don't like it. The expanded Medicaid that gives us the 5 million number covers primarily the working poor, not these that don't work. I'm not sure if you are aware of this? These are people that make up to 138% of the poverty level and can't afford to buy health insurance on the private market. In large part these are the people that don't go to the doctor much but flood hospital ERs when they get really sick. They are the ones that can't pay those bills and the hospital ends up passing the losses on to the rest of us. When those people get Medicaid they are less likely to wait until their condition is really bad and go ahead and see a doctor early on. Hospitals like the one in my hometown, that has a very high percentage of indigent patients would get paid for the care they provide. The hospital would avoid operating in the red and can provide better care for all of us. The economic impact in my community and in similar places all over the country would be greatly improved. Unfortunately for the 318k North Carolinians that would qualify under an expanded Medicaid program and ultimately for the rest of us, our General Assembly has chosen to pass on the option. In my opinion the expansion of Medicaid will be a net positive for the nation.

There was also the Urban Institute report that came out at about the same time and put the number at 5.4 million.
