I think I would give him a 30-40% chance of being successful at TN. He is by no means a sure thing, but he has a personality and he has had some mid major success.

Any word on the TN side regarding the basketball - football series? I know there are talks but not much beyond that.

I could be wrong, but I believe they owe us a football game, one they keep pushing back now to maybe 2017? If they start keeping their word and actually play us in football every few years, then I'm all for renewing the basketball series.

Certainly not. But Goodman also said that Tennessee was "the third best job in the SEC" ... yet Tennessee was turned down by the Louisiana Tech coach before they offered Tyndall. So take it for what it's worth. 03-wink

If UT is the 3rd best job, then that shows how bad the conference is.

I'm not sure it's the 3rd best job in the state of Tennessee.

1. Memphis
2. Vandy
3. Belmont?

Vandy is definitely #2. Belmont and utk would be close at #3.

Maybe the recent post-Pearl years and all of the associated hoopla will convince the TN administration to offer a helping hand to their basketball program and get the contract for the football side done. I think the holdup is the limited number of OOC games and the fact that it'll have to be a home and home with Memphis. That's a lot of money lost to them (and gained by us) -- which hurts I'm sure.

Oh, if you're only counting basketball, you can probably leave Vandy and utk both off the list. Guess it's just Memphis.

It has to hurt double. No way the Vols want to give any sustenance to the malnourished step child to it's west. Don't want it to grow into something scary one day. :)

Yep --- the key is "job" not best attendance. Auburn was able to hire Bruce Pearl. Tennessee was turned down by La Tech's coach. 03-wink

Designating Belmont as the 3rd best job in the State of Tennessee is such an incredulous idea that I think it is offered in jest. UTK offers far superior fan support, funding, salaries, and facilities than Belmont. Indeed, the coach of Belmont (Rick Byrd) yearns to coach for the Vols.

Sure, but I do think that TN is the third best 'job' in the state. But I agree, putting Belmont third is almost as silly as the Vol fans putting themselves a the second best job in the SEC ... ahead of Florida and behind Kentucky. Granted, most think they're the third best in the SEC.

How can they even be the third best job in the SEC? They were turned down by all their 'A List' candidates according to Parrish and then got turned down by the fracking Louisiana Tech guy. Aren't there at least three jobs in the SEC better?

Well, opinions are what makes the world go round. Heck, over on volnation, they think utk is the number one job in the state. I'm serious.

What is considered successful?

That is the biggest question...And one that gets many coaches in trouble.

For me, I think TN should be in the NCAAT basically 75% of the time and that we should win a game in the tourney about half the time. I think a coach who does that would be considered successful.

If you are in that often you give yourself a chance to make a run every now and then, while on the other hand no program is immune to an NIT season.

Three of the last four TN coaches have gone to the Sweet 16. Two of the last four went to the tourney every year they were there. You can win at TN; not national championship type winning (unless you are dealing with a special coach) but you can be consistently in the tourney and thus in the national discussion.

UT finally did something right. I'm a fan of Tyndell and I was hoping Tulsa would go after him.

As far as basketball jobs in TN:

Memphis, UT, Vandy, Belmont, MTSU.
