According to Parrish - looks like Tyndall got a 6 year (TN wanted only 5 but Tyndall got his 6) 1.6 m dollar K. Bet he could have held out for better terms under the circumstances but, if you want the job, why risk it.

How does that even fit into the equation? Recruiting?

The Vols should be more concerned about winning in the $EC rather than competing with Memphis for recruits...

Oh wait, I see....

No way, they would duck us the year we have a good team like they did when Danny and DeAngelo were here.

So it's not Pastner that will be scared but Tennessee football? Tweet Goodman with this. 03-wink

Great hire. And I hate to say that. But it is a great hire.

We need to slow our roll making fun of TN, since the last time Memphis has gotten past the round of 32, UTK has gone to an E8 and a S16.

They have a coach. Memphis doesn't have them on the schedule, so let's carry on.

If Tyndall actually coaches for 6 years he will develop a good program. But if UTK is the UTK we have come to know, he won't last half that time. I think at one time they were actually paying 3 head FB coaches & they wonder why they have a hard time getting the coaches they want.

I'm happy with the hire.

he will get the benefit of the doubt on the Hill because he isn't Martin and he has a better resume than martin had when he was hired. Plus he follows martin not Bruce.

I think I would give him a 30-40% chance of being successful at TN. He is by no means a sure thing, but he has a personality and he has had some mid major success.

Certainly not. But Goodman also said that Tennessee was "the third best job in the SEC" ... yet Tennessee was turned down by the Louisiana Tech coach before they offered Tyndall. So take it for what it's worth. 03-wink

If UT is the 3rd best job, then that shows how bad the conference is.

Do they get slighted because their football has been so successful?

They have been to nine NCAA's in the past 15 years (Memphis has been to 10). They have 20 NCAAt appearances (Memphis has 26).

Bernard King is arguably as good as any college player Memphis had and certainly King (NBA HOF), Ellis and Houston are better than any three NBA players Memphis can line up.

And they are constently in the top 10 in attendance (ahead of Memphis).

Vol fan thread on just that topic. I think the debate there is whether TN is second or third best ---

I'm not sure it's the 3rd best job in the state of Tennessee.

Which makes you wonder how Louisiana Tech's coach, a coach from a 1 bid conference - could turn down this SEC power.

1. Memphis
2. Vandy
3. Belmont?

What is considered successful?

That is the biggest question...And one that gets many coaches in trouble.

Any word on the TN side regarding the basketball - football series? I know there are talks but not much beyond that.
