RE: FSU lost money
Interesting stuff... "Net ticket prices"? Pretty shocking that a team playing for the NC wouldn't sell out (which is what a net ticket balance would imply).
Sorry. If Cincinnati ever played for the NC, they would sell out. We were left out of the game in 2009, but we still sold out our Sugar Bowl allotment, and took many more. Of course, UF proved that we did not deserve to be in the NC game

I wouldn't make too big a deal of this or generalize, because each bowl is different in terms of the packages. I know when UConn was in the Fiesta, the bowl people down there required people to buy BOTH Championship game tix and Fiesta Bowl tix, and the aftermarket was flooded with cheap tix because of that. UConn's AD was trying to sell 17,000 $5k travel/ticket packages while UConn fans were getting $400 RT flights on Southwest and $20 tix. Good luck with that. There are pictures of the game where you can see at least 10-12k UConn fans filling sections while the school only officially sold 4k tix. I'm sure the Rose Bowl was filled with FSU fans who didn't buy the ridiculous packages through the school. You can say fans should buy through the school, but until you look at the actual packages and see thousands of dollars in difference, what regular fan would buy through the school?

i completely agree. you get better seats on the aftermarket and for less money too. but it doesnt change the fact that UCF got so much ridicule by the national media and other team fans for not selling their allotment. heck, LA also had more options with regard to flights and airports than phoenix had. but all we get is a little peep about 4 months after the fact in the small hometown newspaper of FSU. i hate hypocrisy.

RE: FSU lost money
I sat in on their Bowl Game reconciliation meeting from last year, so I could've told you they would lose money. It's crazy what these universities purchase for Bowl Games and how many people from the universities fail to even show up at the Bowl Game, at their hotels, etc.

RE: FSU lost money
Sure... they lost 500k. I'm sure no additional t shirts will be sold, and not one additional season ticket will be sold due to there banner year. Of course applications to FSU will not increase. Poor Poor FSU, what are they to do.

Trust me, it might be FSU, but they still worry about money and have the same issues as schools like Temple and Memphis.

That article states that FSU initially lost money but expects to make a profit once the rest of the money (i.e. their ACC bowl share) comes in.
It should be noted that Auburn also lost money - initially - LINK.

FSU actually DID sell-out their tickets. The "Net ticket prices" line is referring to tickets that FSU bought for internal use - they had to buy a ticket for each band member, each cheerleader, and a bunch of faculty who they also flew out to watch the game. Auburn did the same thing.
Now imagine DOUBLING that for the college football playoff and you can see - it's going to take a Brink's Truck worth of money to send a team to the championship game.

Lost $500,000. . . After the Winston investigation, I was wondering why the Tallahassee Police Department had 24 karat gold handles for their guns.

First timers are always scrutinized. Once you make your statement, they leave you alone. But if you do not make a good first impression, it stays with you forever like herpes.
