Question For South Carolina Folks
Watching the history of the Revolutionary War tonight ( I know...exciting lifestyle huh), they said a group of South Carolina guerillas named the "Partisans" terrorized the British. Among this group the most feared by the British was a guerilla group nicknamed the "Gamecocks". Is this where the school name originated? I somehow never thought the schools mascot was really a chicken. Can someone clear this up for me?04-cheers

You weren't paying attention to Charles Kuralt.
He said Thomas Sumter was refered to as the "Carolina Gamecock".

Who the heck knows where the name of the school's mascot came from, it's a chicken for goodness sake.

BTW I was watching the same program last night. You may enjoy this 30 second Charles Kuralt piece....it's not about chickens.
