@GaryParrishCBS: A source told @CBSSports that Donnie Tyndall's deal at Tennessee is for six years at $1.6 million per year.

Nice little salary bump...

Especially given that their players will be able to transfer.

Tyndall just continued what Eustacy had started. They make the right hire and it will continue. I am guessing Greg Helier gets a look. Former jr college coach. Assistant under Eustachy and now assistant at Wichita State. Good coach. Good recruiter.

And what did Eustachy start? An endless line of juco transfers? They weren't that good under him, and made 1 NCAA tournament in more than half a decade.

Speaking of recycling failed coaches with a name, I hear USM may try for Rick Stansbury.

It would have been really hard for Tyndall to turn that offer down in my opinion. I think it's a huge reach for Tennessee, but time will tell.

I hope Southern Miss continues with the hiring of another good coach. It's a good thing for us and the rest of C-USA when Southern Miss is relevant in basketball.

I think you greatly underestimate the job that was Southern Miss basketball.

Spot on, very important hire for USM. If they make good hire again there is no reason they can't keep trending upward. Just as easy to make a Ellis Johnson type hire though....

+1.

"The Proud and Storied History of USM Basketball" is among the shortest books ever written.

lol you guys are right about how bad USM was, but compared to normal basketball programs they haven't been *that* successful during their last 5 years.

RE: Sources: Vols hire Donnie Tyndall
According to Gary Parrish, the Vols made their first contact with Tyndall about 4pm yesterday. They both flew to New Orleans and met, and it was a done deal by 8:30pm.

Somebody wanted out of Hattiesburg awfully bad.
