Too much travel? Providence is on the outer edge of the Big East; in America East they are going as far as Binghamton instead of Nebraska (if Creighton plays Volleyball).

Volleyball has been a non-scholarship sport at Providence. Not sure if that's changed now that they are moving to the Big East. I believe every team in the Big East plays at the scholarship level.

Not Creighton ... they dropped out of the Old Big East in 2003, and played as an independent until joining America East in 2009. Back then it might have been the flight to Florida.

I guess after cashing the New Big East media check, they can afford the flights now ~ and, per prp, maybe a few scholarships as well.

volleyball wasn't fully funded. although PC had some success and BE championships in the past. I dont know if the reduced scholarships or kept they same level they had back in the 80's and 90's.
I believe the plan now, anounced a few years ago (while there was still the old BE) was to increase the support for volleyball as well as mens LAX. LAX is in the process of becoming fully funded
PC has made a strong commitment to athletics in general.
Within the past 3 years volleyball, mens and womens bb have all had their facilities remodeled/updated.
A new track was finished last fall as well as a renovated hockey arena (shared by both men and women). Ground breaks soon for a new soccer/lacrosse stadium. That will be followed by new softball and tennis facilites. The oldest facility will be for field hockey (built circa 05/06) The pool is much older but they have made improvements there as well. Making it more viewer friendly for meets and training for the athletes

That would explain the increase in support to women's volleyball, since more funding of scholarships for men's LAX implies a need to have a Title IX offset somewhere.

I wonder if America East will throw NJIT another bone, since the AE is down to seven members in volleyball (no Vermont or Maine).
