MAC adds Longwood and Binghamton
MAC Press Release
It just makes the MAC's booting of Hartwick look even more nonsensical.

Meh...Binghamton and Longwood committed to D1 ADs, while Hartwick just wants to dabble in soccer. Their attendance wasn't all that rousing, either. I know that's a small college...but if that's your top sport, show up.

I'm not saying they were a great addition in the first place, but they did put the MAC in a position to survive if one of the other members had to drop the sport. Now, they're at the minimum of six teams. It also allowed the Sun Belt to start up men's soccer, which means more competition and one less at-large tournament spot.
I always looked at them like the Hockey schools that only compete in that sport. They do have a national championship under their belt, albeit one from decades ago.
Also, they're hardly any further from Buffalo than Binghamton is.

Once again, the MAC looks to the east.
Makes you wonder.

Does Binghamton play football?
Hartwick was a soccer powerhouse in the 1970s.

No they don't.
America East only has a few schools that sponsor Men's Tennis - marriage of convienence. Nothing more.

America East just dropped tennis due to a lack of teams. That's why the MAC picked up Binghamton, which was the best program out of the remaining four. The others were Stony Brook, Hartford, and UMBC.

It does seem to confirm what they said at the time that they preferred not to have multi-divisional affiliates, since both of these are D1 schools.

The California schools in the NorPac have to be nervous, because if they get below 8 schools, cross-country regular season conference games are the result.

Or Missouri State getting another place to play their women's field hockey?
Binghamton brings MAC tennis up to 6, but Longwood brings MAC women's field hockey up to 7.

MAC soccer doesn't need to worry about at-larges when its representation in the NCAA's is just Akron in most years. Belmont is no longer out there as an independent, so you're stuck at 6 for a while.
