RE: Proposed new NCAA rules and how'll they'll apply
An important piece that will be debated >>>

http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/medi...s-feedback

Quote:... While retaining the concepts that were included in the “actionable” category, the board decided that the process it had identified as “actionable” - requiring the conferences other than the highest-profile five to take a separate vote – would not be included in the proposal....

... The board will seek feedback on some questions raised by members of governance bodies in recent days, including: the process by which items decided by the full division could become part of the list of autonomous areas; the voting, interpretation and enforcement processes within the five highest-profile conferences; and the core structure that separates not only the five highest-profile conferences into their own group but also continues a separation of the next five conferences (the American Athletic Conference, Conference-USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West Conference and Sun Belt Conference) from the remaining 22.

So, if this proposal passes, we'll have three, maybe four tiers --- the P5, those in the G5 that can keep up the best, and the rest of the other 22 non-P5s or G5s.

Hello? This is pretty big IMO. Maybe I'm seeing this wrong but if this passes --- AND we take it that the AAC is one of the if not 'the' most financially secure G5 conferences out there ---- the AAC will have a chance to match the P5 and separate itself from the rest of the other non-P5 conferences. No?

So the new proposal, in simple terms, is that all rule changes will be up to the individual conferences and/or schools (ie "permissive); all previously proposed changes remain viable and on the table; voting will be split into P5s, G5s, and the other 22 conferences. Right?

Tiger football is a far better position today than it was 50 years ago. In 1963, we had no TV exposure at all, essentially zero chance of playing in a bowl game and there were no limits on spending or roster size. Bear Bryant and others signed players just to keep other schools from having them. In spite of all that, we finished that 1963 ranked 14th in the nation. Ther main thing we need these days is more PRIDE.

From everything you quoted, that's how it looks, which brings to mind the reason Tulane, who is investing money in FB, was let into the AAC conference.

I can't imagine having to put up with those non-football schools--now called the BigEast.

Maybe I'm looking at it too simplistically, though.

Yes.

But, all the other schools also have more television exposure, more chances to play in bowls, and more revenue generated from the above in which to spend.

I am all about Memphis...but we are not the only school in a "better" position today than decades before. Not a vacuum.

With all that, yes, we need OUR fans and OUR alums as well as others to support OUR programs unapologetically- which would be a big step and one needed now.

I have no idea what the final costs will be but it doesn't sound like it will be small considering Title IX. I wonder how many schools, even within each of those conferences, can afford it.

I'm not. What the P5 does might get pretty expensive.

RE: Proposed new NCAA rules and how'll they'll apply
There may actually only be about 15 or 20 football schools that can actually afford to do this new stuff should the cost of recruiting top players begin to spin out of control. The unintended consequence could be the destruction of college sports as we know it today, even in the big conferences.
