National Baseball Polls (w/o April 21st)
Kendall and Perfect Game continues to hold back on boosting Rice's rankings vis-a-vis others, as he raises us only 3 notches from his very low #20th ranking of last week; now up to #17...

JC Reeves cops his second CUSA Player of the Week honor of the year...and he's doing this from the catchers position (which wears hitters down as the season progresses) with a bandaged hand and a leg injury. What a warrior! 04-cheers

BA moves us up to No. 12, leapfrogging over the Coogs who have 3 less losses than us and also had a 3-1 week. UH must be thinking they "get no respect."

I am more and more impressed with this guy as the season progresses. He is worth the price of a ticket to watch. Little leaguers could learn a lot by watching him. I haven't figured out who will play Reeves in the movie.

On a different subject, I would trade Jon D's glasses for those that Ricky Vaughn wore - that would be epic...

UH isn't playing great ball right now but yes…this is pretty stupid considering head to head. Frankly as long as UH is hosting a regional, I could care less about the polls. The polls love the SEC, the ACC, and UT, and everyone else has to "prove it" over and over again.

Yup.

I could have seen a case for us jumping y'all if we went 4-0, but since we tied your mark for the week, it seems strange.

Our records were not equal. From everything I have read on this board and observed elsewhere, the weekend series are for more important than mid week games. The prime pitchers are used on the weekend. I have read here that weekend series are particularly important to BA. So, our 3-1, the loss of which was a midweek, is better than their 3-1, the loss of which was a weekend game.

We have a winner! If they come in 5th in the AAC...

Collegiate Baseball has us at #19, up five from last week, but still low IMO. UT at #16, and UH unranked... I'm not sure if I'd lend much credence to this poll.

From having followed this board for around seven or so years, the posts of a number of posters have indicated that CB has the least worthwhile polls, given to wide swings for little reason.

Collegiate Baseball's poll is not really a poll (at least it didn't used to be). The numbers are devised by the editorial staff at the newspaper (read: Lou P.) and then published as their "poll".

Precisely. And from everything I've heard, though highly respected, Lou is getting on in years, and has strong bias towards the southeastern schools and perennial powers. Having said that, he does very little research, and goes almost exclusively on W-L record, without regards to SoS, RPI or road record.

The Writers kept us at #16...

http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2014...pril-21st/

...I just don't understand the logic of either Oklahoma State or Louisville being ranked ahead of us...and South Carolina is way too high at #8 given their recent struggles.

Spot on....and if you really want to be impressed, have a conversation with him. That young man is something special....and no, I am not a relative. L

RE: National Baseball Polls (w/o April 21st)
The scariest proposition right now for rice is facing a #4 seed with one really good ace. Rice's ace is out and the replacement ace might come back in the bullpen. That puts a lot of pressure on Mccanna in a regional, where winning the first couple games is hugely important (and goes a long way toward reducing the number of guys needed out of the bullpen, which has been a problem evidenced in some of Rice's mid-week games).

I think Fox now qualifies as a legitimate ace the way he's pitched this year. He could very well move to Friday night for a potential Super-regional matchup. Also, assuming Zech does come back healthy, even if he stays in the bullpen for the remainder of the regular season, I could very easily see The OG moving him back to the Friday night spot for the post-season.
