Heard EKU has applied for membership
Could EKU be that 12th member? I heard they have applied for membership to the Sun Belt.

It appears obvious that EKU wants to move to FBS. I think it'd be good for the SBC. I'm doubtful their transition would be as smooth as AppSt or GaSo's transition will be but I could be wrong. Regardless, long term, it balances out the league, gives AppSt a travel partner and gives the SBC a team that likely won't bolt for another conference down the road.

OK, here we go! The Colonels have thrown down the gauntlet and the ball is now in the SBC"s court. Blink, Benson, Blink.

RE: Heard EKU has applied for membership
I have no doubt they have. If they don't get in now, they are out for a while... just like JMU. My biggest single problem with them is their football facilities... they are really bad. It would take $50-$70 million to get them up to par with many SBC schools.

If they showed a plan on how they intend to get there, and had money to back them, I'm sure AppState would not get in their way.

Their location is the only positive for me and I am one of the people in favor of moving to 12 for football as soon as we can. It just looks like time stood still 20 years ago for their athletic infrastructure. I don't mean to offend any EKU supporters but is their a plan and are their resources to upgrade quickly?

Also, I am of the opinon that market size is irrelevant when it comes to FBS success but can a program in 32K Richmond support a 4th Kentucky based football program? Louisville is doing well and WKU has had some success so maybe there just isn't a recruiting base to succeed in the SEC.

For contrast, open the link above and the EKU link. We already know very well the issue that many people have with Liberty but they have triple the budget available and the facilities aren't even close.

I will welcome whomever we add or be happy if we stay put because I don't think it really impacts the success of any given program either way. I like 12 for symmetry in the divisions but 10 works as well.

Maybe they can support a 4th KY football program. Troy, AL has a population of 18,033 and is located in the middle of the boondocks. They do pretty darn well. So, Richmond, you say has 32,000 and IMO, they could probably do as well.

Alabama is a very strong recruiting base. I don't think Kentucky is in the same league for producing athletes. Maybe EKU can mine other states.

RE: Heard EKU has applied for membership
Once MoSt and JMU said no I think EKU went right to the top because they have shown they want in and willing to do what it takes to get there...with in reason.

First step is getting in and I honestly hope they do. As far as the stadium it needs work but they don't have to go all out. Build some stands on the one side and do some cosmetic work on the other . The designs talked about by their fans will not come close to getting done with the money they are taking about. As far as their budget student fees will be added but from what I read I don't think it will be enough...

that's OK, get in the door and then ask for more.

I think they will have it a little tougher than TXST, GSU, APP, and USA in football but not so much when it comes to basketball.

While the SBC has a few really nice basketball arenas Eastern's is still as good if not better than some especially GST, TXST, ULM and while it's not as large as ASU's it's not any worse on the inside.

I'm not going to take any offense on the comments on especially RKS. It has been in need of a facelift for a long time. I would also love to see the plans for the three tier on the visitors side and the additional funding to build it. MacBrayer Arena is getting a facelift this year, to include a new floor (current floor is the original since the 60s). Baseball and softball fields just got lighting. Not sure what may need to be done in track. XC runs at Arlington Country Club. Golf plays and practices at a state of the art facility located at Arlington since EKU also has a PGM program.

If true, it would be great. I would love to get games back with WKU, MTSU as well as having consistent games with Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. (I know the WKU and MTSU games would not be every year, but it would be nice just to have you back on the schedule. As an Colonel from the late 70s and early 80s, I miss those games).

I also think WKU has a good scheduling strategy and would love games against Army and Navy once the facilities have been spruced up.

Other than just the president's interview, can we really confirm MSU has said no? I feel like true things are publicly denied all the time

Wouldn't it be shocking if Liberty, EKU, Jacksonville State & UMass hadn't all applied?

Denying is one thing but he took it two or three step farther. You deny by saying the MVC is our home and we want to make it the best home we can but we are always going to be looking out for what we think is best for MoSt. At this time we are a member of the MVC and we are working to put our sports programs in the best position as possible. That's how you deny if you are even thinking about a move....

Nothing other than his interview. He sure laid it out in the interview though. Unless that was an old interview and he has changed his mind you can see where his feelings are. Seldom does FBS get done if the school's president doesn't even seem to back going to FBS.

TXST is about to totally renovate the basketball arena. Make it much bigger and nicer. FYI.

Please remove that wall! It totally ruined any judgement I could make on the arena. Once that's gone even if nothing else was done it's not too bad. EKU has a wall like that also but the seating is better. GST also has a wall but there's nothing that would help them other than another arena. GST is worse than a lot of HS gyms... other than the wall and needing updated TXST wasn't bad.

The only one I dont understand is UMASS? The others are geographic fits. EKU and JSU are similar type universities to the other SB members. Liberty would be a different model than others but it could be what the other members want.

If its a eastern member these seem to be the only options available but who knows.

Missouri State is not an option for 2014. Now a couple years down the road...once you guys have had a chance to grow your football program? I think you become likely.
