Most folks think the golden age was whenever they were in school--when everyone was smart and literate and well-behaved.

When I was little I remember my grandparents--born in the late 1890s, complaining how my parents' generation (the WWII/depression generation) was lazy, not as smart as they were, etc., etc.

Yep, every generation is always worse than the one before. So which generation is it that's better? The civil war generation? Ww1? Ww2? Vietnam? In reality, today's generation is the most war free, most employed by the actual numbers & not percentages. Coming out of a depression like 6 year era that their grandparents voted in politicians created & are as tough as nails. Who cares if they use acronyms & spell check. In reality, the generation of today is changing the world with technology & creativity. In other words, the young aren't always wrong, & just as in bible times, it may very well be the young leading us out of this crooked & perverse world that yesterday's amazing generation created.

I beg to differ. And lest you think I do not like the present generation, overall I do think they are quite spoiled, self-centered, and shallow. However, I would acknowledge that my generation, the Boomers, were pretty darn spoiled, too, although I think we were focused on ending a war that had dragged on too long and we were focused on changing the world. I like a lot of what I see in the newest generation and I look forward to seeing them evolve.

Anyway, when you talk about the "better" generation, "better" meaning what? I would say one of the most literate generations was the WWI generation who were raised reading the classics, learning classical languages, studying history and English and math, and also art and music and dance. Good public education was widespread. Civics and morals were taught in the classroom. That was my grandfather's generation, so I am pretty familiar with his schooling.

The WWII generation was similarly educated and competent.

In thinking of "better", I am obviously not just looking at how many people had jobs. I am thinking about how many people were raised with good basic education and moral guidance.

Who cares if the newest generation uses acronyms and spell check? You are missing my point entirely. Spelling often determines the actual meaning of a word, and the meaning of a word is very important to clear communication. I'm not nitpicking typos; I am equating spelling with communication.

And yes, the newest generation is changing the world with technology, but I hope we are not losing a deep understanding of the content that we are transmitting through all this technology. In other words, garbage in, garbage out. And yes, there are amazing new ways to express creativity with all the new technology, but how good is what is being expressed without a deeper foundation of knowledge of history, culture, art, and literature upon which to build?

All I'm trying to point out is, don't be so hard on the generation x & later kids. So far, they have a good track record for innovation & peace. Don't believe half the crap you see on nbc, Fox News & even crap holes like MTV & nick. They paint a picture of a kid that they want to be, but in reality, this generation is the most informed, talented, world changing & peaceful generation we've seen in quite (snicker) some time.

Well, some of the above is true. One of the above referenced outlets documents what it says with live coverage and/or factual reference. It was a little early in the AM for you, however. 03-shhhh

To be continued. It still is quite a quiet and maybe bored board. 07-coffee3

Did it breathe?

Was an if, not an is.

No problems with a mouth breather enjoying slop- but slop is not news, and I feel somewhat sorry for anyone who during the offseason of college basketball and football, fills their time not with outside running, or enjoying the river, or books, or pools, or children or anything fun and nice, but advocates that the way to spend ones free time is...

...in an Internet political forum which they consider...snicker...the "real world."

Sad.

I've left this one off ignore- for the I hate everyone hatefest meltdown entertainment, but that may have to change soon.

"OK- Indy 2015! Do it for Finch, for Penny, for Lee, for Turner, for Henderson, for Perry, for DWash, for Carney, for Joe, for Robinson, for Wise, for Barron and Rice, for Big Jack, for Kenon, for Bedford, for DeAngelo, for Vinnie Vinnie Vinnie, for Boyd, for Burks, for Hunt, for Wilfong, for CDR, for DOZIER AND ANDERSON, for Mack and Kemp, for Will, for Bartow and Kirk, for Spoon, for DJ... & especially for Finch!!!"

Do you even know who Dr. Lambert, Vanatta, Ehlers, R.M. Robison and Win Wilfong are? You're so smart that one day you'll meet yourself coming around a corner wondering what happened. You WILL find out, perhaps sooner than later. You must have enlisted another of your wondrous mind to take up your mantle of madness. You certainly don't instruct in the FCBE. That's a plus.

Now, back to your class of instruction and your values...sad as they are. One of your profs in Connecticut took it in the neck today for his mindless attempt at mentoring a student that was smart enough to catch his rant on his Smart Phone. It did not work there and hopefully it won't here.

FWIW, I don't ignore anyone... not even you. Nor would I. It's always a wonder just to see what critical thinking may come from your fingers. I'm still waiting. 07-coffee3

Sorry mouth breather, but right wing nutjob invective laced posts hardly equals real life. Simple equals real scary. But- and this is why this is the greatest country in the world, you can spew vile opinions. Just do not fall into the trap of whining is slapped back.

You may think the P-R forum is vitriol, but the spin room is full of info from all across the nation. Ask Georgia Tech Swagger. The Memphis P-R forum can hold it's own with the best of them. You can't stand your professorial heat thrown back at you. You can't teach this excrement in school forever and get away with it.

Please tell us what the hell does this mean. "Just do not fall into the trap of whining is slapped back." What "vile opinions" on what... according to who... YOU?

I was, after all, trying to give some small suggestion as to where one could expand their mind and thoughts... including you.

Had to leave and did not finish this until now. It's still valid, however.

The P-R forum is complete and utter mouth breathing garbage. There is no independent thinking to be had there, there are no eye opening revelations to be found, it's not some bastion of the profound. It's Extreme Red Team vs. Extreme Blue Team, anyone in the middle can **** off.

And the Spin Room... what about the Spin Room? Do you have the same opinion of that too? You sure you're not related to Mimi or are you even Mimi in disguise... another screen name perhaps.

If we're talking grammar....here's a *****.

Everyone, someone, anyone, no one, everybody, nobody, etc are all singular.

So we can't use everyone like this: Everyone needs a place to expand their mind.

We can do this: Everyone needs a place to expand his mind. Everyone needs a place to expand her mind. Everyone needs a place to expand his or her mind.

The problem is we don't have a singular word that includes both male and female---only his and her. Sucks doesn't it.

Yeah, I do have the same opinion of the Spin Room, and quite frankly, the two of you need to take this ******* **** over there, it isn't Tiger related, it's ego related.

I'll just speak in words you can understand, as you seem to be rather simple.

BULL EXCREMENT

Nice commentary: "the two of you need to take this ******* **** over there, it isn't Tiger related, it's ego related." It IS Tiger related, but you'll never understand why. 03-lmfao

There are people from all over the country in the Spin Room that have gone to very high quality schools that provide input there for intelligent discussion. There are many people that have had careers of world wide importance. So you want to dismiss them? That's fine. It's your loss.

BTW, I never ignore anyone, as it is important to know and try to understand what all are thinking. There is certainly not any ego involved, let me assure you.

Enjoy your day. Enough has been spent on this useless process.

Tata.

It is obsessed.

Only a few of the mouth breathers words come through- but- the mouth breather is the one who needs to expand its thoughts.

Or- hold on to the tired mouth breathing basement dwelling nonsense that anyone who does not detest so many others must be ignorant.

Trust us mouth breather. Our horizons are expanded. Your ilk, on the other hand, need the help.

Done with this one- and no- mouth breather- being done in no way means not expanding knowledge. Means recognizing someone who needs serious help. We enjoy everyone. If only you could state the same.

Buhbye.
