I'm thinking the author mistook outter loop runners for Rice students. Because we're still mostly a bunch of nerdy kids who avoid the gym (as of 2011 anyways).

Perhaps, but those "nerdy kids" are not the students running along the sidewallk! 01-lauramac2

Even in my day, there were lots of students in good physical shape, but "part-time body builders"? Nah.

Yeah, there are still plenty of students who are active and play sports, but there is a small minority that could be described as "body builders," or anything remotely similar, with regard to size and stature. For the most part, I noticed us guys were pretty average in height and build.

Great write-up.

Quote:“Brock Holt’s best tool is his smile."

He looks like he's having fun, doesn't he?

He especially did after this catch last night:

When he was smiling after the catch I thought he had probably heard something from the Sox bullpen down the line in right. What makes his outfield play so amazing is not just that he has never played the outfield but he keeps doing things like this in ballparks he has never played in so the walls and foul territory are all completely new to him.

Here is the link for part 2 of the article about Brock:

http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf...art_2.html

The ending is so appropriate. Last year I showed up to watch Brock take BP before a game at the Astros. I had contacted him on Facebook to see if he would sign a ball for me. When I called out his name and tossed him the ball, all the people wearing Red Sox gear around me were like "Who?"

Holt not in the lineup tonight for Boston - his first day off since May 15.

Looking at Bosox lineup tonight, Brock (.305) is the only player hitting above .300. He (.353) and Napoli are the only two players with OBPs over .350. He (.426), Napoli, and Ortiz are the only players with slugging percentages over .400. Not the typical Bosox lineup we have come to expect in the past.

I notice that his bat has cooled down (20 points since break). Bound to happen, but would be great if he continues to hit over .300.

Holt now has enough AB's to be listed in the MLB Stats section. He comes in at #17 in BA. In the rookie categories he's in the top 5 in most offensive stats despite having played less games.

AR is #51 in BA today.

Holt on MLB Radio today at 2:00.

Typical question: Are you going to pitch and catch this season? You wouldn't want to see me on the bump....f
What's it like playing with Dustin Pedroia? He plays at 102% every day. Everything people say is true...
How does it feel to see people wearing your jersey? Weird...

What is scary is how good he looks in the outfield. In yesterday's game a ball was hit down the RF line and Holt got to it quickly and with a good throw held the hitter to a single. A good many regular RF'ers would have had trouble doing that.

He made an equally impressive, but largely unnoticed play last night. The walls along the RF line in Fenway can create some strange angles. He took a great line to a ball that I didn't understand at first (I was sitting in the RF bleachers). The ball bounced off the wall and straight to him. Great understanding of his home field. Anyone who didn't understand the wall like that would've easily given up another base.

AR also Top 10 in NL in doubles, RBI's, and total bases......and #1 in runs scored.
