RE: Jeb Bush supports Common Core?
The Common Core makes for some strange bed fellows. I disagree with the Common Core for a number of reasons. I'm sure you can find examples of this all over this great nation of ours.

1st one. My daughter is in the 5th grade. She is covering Meiosis. The 5th grade teacher who obviously doesn't have knowledge in the area gives her a half ass worksheet on it. With her getting frustrated with it I decide to help her out. I asked her what she knew about chromosomes. She's never heard of them nor has she covered them. Now I ask you. How in the hell do you cover Meiosis without knowledge of chromosomes? Then I ask you how many parents can help their kids out dealing with meiosis. I don't even think the teacher knows it.

2nd one. The common core is being instituted by big money trying to nationalize standardized tests. We are TALKING HUGE, BIG, GIGANTIC bags of money. Next year I'm up to the plate. As I wrote in an earlier posting we are going to give three sets of standardized tests next year. The first one is going to be given in Feb. So you would think it's going to cover a half years worth of material. It does, except the first half of the tests won't cover cells. The end of course one will. Now since I've taught I have covered cells in September. Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration in October. Osmosis, Mitosis, and Meiosis in November. Mendellian and Modern Genetics in Dec Jan. I transition from there into Human Inheritance. Then to Evolution and prepping for the OGT. After the OGT I go to Population Genetics and Ecology to end out the year. Now the Common Core standardized test is going to dictate what I teach and when and it just screws up the process. How in the H*** can you put cells at the end of the year. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm sure there are tons of little instances throughout all areas of the curriculum. I have guest speakers lined up. They know when to come in year to year. Yada yada yada. I just don't like someone making a one size fits all curriculum that's designed for a standardized test for the masses.

Common core is nothing but another federal bribe. It is an unfunded piece of **** that will drive states further into debt. Just like the bribe that is medicaid expansion.
