If the scholarship limit increased from 85-110, guess where Alabama is going to get those other 25 players from. The wont get them from S Miss or Houston. They will get them from Texas Tech, Indiana, and Georgia Tech. The top 10-20 schools in FBS would be all for expanding the scholarship limits. The other 45 P5 schools would see their talent level FALL under such a scenario as they lost their 500 best athletes to the top 20 super powers in the P5. The scholarship limits is what allows Texas Tech and Indiana to have a chance in the power leagues against schools like Texas and Alabama. Thus, it wont happen---as the majority of the P5 doesn't want scholarship expansion to occur. The last thing the lower 2/3rds of the P5 want is to have to play Texas and Alabama using a bunch of athletes that used to be playing G5 football.
Exactly, of all the doomsday scenarios I've seen the "scholarship limits are going to rise dramatically" crap makes the least sense. You are not getting a majority of the P5 to vote for that, because it would hurt the majority of the P5 and they know it. Essentially the middle to bottom of the P5 has the same incentive to keep the powers from running away from them as we do. Unless

Doesn't matter if the so called p5 have 200 scholarship limit, playing time will continue to be a huge selling point to most competive kids like O'Korn... Why??? b/c the NFL will remain their future dreams and riding the bench won't help them achieve those goals $$$.
The AAC now has exposure in its arsenal quite similar to the so called p5 conferences... I see 3-4 star recruits still going to the AAC.

Starting time really does matter to a lot of recruits.
Most of them don't think they will be a 3rd stringer. May of these kids are coming from situations where they are one of the best athletes ever to come out of their high school. They have complete confidence in their abilities to start.
Some of the others who do recognize they won't ever start still want to go along for that magical ride at playing at Big State U. in front of 100K people every Saturday. They will wear the bage of honor for the rest of their life that they played for Big State U.
Very good points.
The first kid is - in my opinion - a product of bad advice. Family members and coaches need to be able to sit a kid down and give him a dose of reality. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to happen as the support networks around most of these guys are shady and are in on the take.
The second kid isn't someone you'd want at an AAC program. The types of people that helped your school climb the ladder were lunch-pail type of guys. Lunch-pail guys aren't satisfied with riding someone else's coattails.

The problem with this is that the Alabamas or LSUs that recruits this kid doesn't intend for him to be a 3rd stringer. Nobody deliberately recruits a kid to be 3rd string, even though everyone knows somebody will end up 3rd string. They recruit him because they think he's good enough to compete for the starting job, at least eventually, and they will tell the kid that. These programs recruit the cream of the crop, not players they know will end up 3rd string.

It wont require a vote of the 27 leagues. Our fate will not be tied to FCS or any non-football league. The decision left to be made is whether it will be a conference decision or an individual school decision. I suppose its possible it could be done by subdivision as well. What we know it WILL NOT be is a D1 wide decision.

I can live with that. As long as we have the choice to follow any and all P5 legislation we want and have the means to. The AAC must find a way to generate more moneY

We won't have the means to. The P5 are about to get massive playoffs and media and bowls windfalls, and they had a lot more money to start out with.
That's what's so critical about this new regime: It unleashes the P5 to use that money in ways the old regime didn't.

How, pray tell, can the AAC generate $18-$20 Million MORE per school per year?
Answer me that question and I'll agree that everything is peaches and cream.

It starts by selling more tickets and increasing donations. That's within each schools control. Then if the league continues to do well and is still completely together in it's current form I expect that a more profitable TV deal can be had. Make the access bowl and continue to be good in the NCAA tournament and that will make the league money. None of that will make up the difference, but each schools options are give up or do whatever it takes to keep up.

Without it I would have had to work my way thru college and risked lower grades or even dropping out. The stipend will probably put the athletes on par with students who work part time jobs. So the players will have a little pocket money to buy a burger, go to the movies, party or on a date.
As one host on CBSSportsRadio noted about Napier's comments about being hungry at night:
"Kid has $2,000 worth of ink on his body...his Mom flies all over the country to watch him play...yet he doesn't have $1 to hit the value meal items at the drive-thru?" (Of course he had a $1)
Priorities...priorities...some people have none.

That sounds reasonable but not realistic. Our schools could sellout all,of our games and we would still be ~$35 million behind in revenues to the B1G, SEC etc...
The winning cures everything argument doesn't explain why a school like Boise is stuck in the MWC, nor does the strong attendance advocates b/c schools like ECU, BYU have great fanbases yet are on the outside looking in. Heck ECU was lucky to get invited to the BigEast/AAC.
IMO, the only way the league isn't marginalized is if there is a legislative or political intervention. That is, let's see if we see the outcry we saw regarding USF blocking UCF when Florida or FSU's actions are effectively harming our athletic programs. Hopefully some in the media will stand up and question their actions and then create a political angle for some aspiring politician to exploit and eventually create a groundswell for our inclusion. Not likely...
The alternative would be for the P5 to create a carrot where the playoffs are expanded to 16 teams and the AAC are given an automatic slot. That would at least keep our fans with some hope much like the mid major fans in college hoops feel like they have a chance. However I don't see why the P5 would ever let this happen. Why spread the wealth when you don't have to?

And "playing time" will also be a factor at the "lesser" P5 schools. I doubt the Alabamas get all of the top recruits in an expanded recruiting class. But I do think that the remainder signs on for playing time with a lesser P5. That allows him both PT and an opportunity to show his skills against the 'best.'
