Perception of Marshall University
After reading the "perception of north texas" thread, I started to wonder the same about Marshall. I know there might be an old thread about this, but I want to also extend this question to the newbies of C-USA.

To the schools who were in C-USA before MU or who were invited with MU, what was your perception then and what is your perception now? For the newbies, what was your overall feelings about being in the same conference as MU.

Please, NO turning this into a pissing match. I just want honest opinions whether they are positive or negative. Keep it clean and friendly. 04-cheers

RE: Perception of Marshall University
I remember one of our Roadrunner faithful started a similar thread for UTSA after the football season was over. But really, who cares? I don't understand why some are so curious about what others think about their schools. What people really think always comes out sooner or later in these threads anyway. I hope we don't start seeing these for every school now. No offense intended btw Surbadger. Just getting tired of seeing these.

None taken. I guess it's just curiosity for the most part. The board seems a bit slow right now. Half of the recent threads have been OT. I just figured some good input could be given on the subject.

Marshall has the nicest fans in CUSA. All the fans I meet when i was in Huntington for the UTSA game were awesome. There is a good chance UTSA will be back in Huntington, WV this upcoming season for the CUSA championship.

Positive. As an outsider, I saw Marshall as a little guy making waves and on the rise as a 1AA team, then as a MAC team, and then become one of the torchbearers for C-USA. And although we didn't get to play you our first year in C-USA, you did win the East. I'm glad to be in a conference with y'all.

Actually, I knew very little about the eastern schools, but my opinion was certainly positive about being in a conference with Marshall.

Randy Moss. The airplane crash that killed the football team back in 1970. And pretty good football. That's what I think of when I think of Marshall University.

RE: Perception of Marshall University
My perception of Marshall is that Marshall does a lot with a little. Surprised and impressed that they have been able to maintain a high level of football play with all of the obstacles they face as a school. Their location, lack of resources and being the red headed step child to WVU, are substantial difficulties imo. Yet somehow they manage to compete in football. I think Marshall is one of those schools that will be just fine regardless of what conference they are in.

I think they actually are a good example of not allowing the conference to define you. Schools in the G5 have to make their own headwinds without the support and money that the big schools get. Marshall seems to have figured out how to do this just fine on their own, regardless of the company they keep. It's a good lesson for most schools in the G5. Make your own news, customs and traditions, and the rest will follow.
