You know what grinds my gears? Maryland & Rutgers Schedule analysis.
Why when people describe the future schedules of Maryland and Rutgers do they describe games against Minnesota or Iowa or Purdue? It's slightly annoying because THEY WILL PLAY IN THE EAST DIVISION. For the next 2 years they'll play 1 home and 1 away game against the west division, after that there will be a max of 2 away west games. It's not like all ACC games or AAC games are a 6 hour or less drive away. The staples on the schedule will be, Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan, Sparty, and Indiana. Make that as the comparison and it's more accurate. That's all.

When you mean "describe" are you referring to travel or strength of schedule? Either way I don't understand why anybody would be complaining about playing a B10 schedule. Not that you are complaining, Big Ron.
For strength of schedule, just being in the B10 is an overall boost. Playing in the East will be insane. It's Indy, MD, us and four eight hundred pound guerillas. Winning the East in anything will be a major task for us.
The travel in no worse than what it was in the old BE and probably a little better than our year in the American. Yes, the bus trips to SH, StJ, Grown and the Philly schools are gone. But consider this; we were already traveling to Wi, I'll, Ind, Ohio and Ky in the old BE. So travel is no worse than what it already was. It actually is a far site better than what it was going to be in the American with going to Tx, Tn, Fla and the pending addition of Tulsa, Tulane.

Yes, people comparing what they recall (often in rose colored hindsight) are forgetting that while UConn and Navy in new American Eastern division would be closer, UC is further than Penn State or the Buckeyes and basically a wash with Michigan State, That School Up North and the Hoosiers ...

... and all of the Big Ten Eastern schools are a lot closer than the Florida schools in the East of the American.

And when you look at the American OkLaTex division versus the Big Ten Western Great Lakes and Eastern Great Plains division, fuggedaboutit. No contest which is closer.

I was thinking about the distance comparison and the attempt to make UMD & RU look like every other week they'll be halfway across the country. It's obsurd because like I said before, most of the schools they'd be facing most often are teams that they're most excited to play.

Most of this talk is by jealous acc fans who are upset about Maryland, they act like its ok that the tarps left but they now its bad for the conference, they will complain about anything and make heinous claims like Penn state will eventually join the acc. Look I love the acc and lived alot of my life in acc country, I wish Maryland still was in the acc but they aren't and creating negatives about the b1g isn't going to change that

To me the distance will be better for Rutgers.

The Florida trips were the only far ones I liked us having for recruiting purposes and there are rumors that we're working on playing a Florida school, be that FIU, FAU, UCF, USF, FSU, UM or UF, as many years as possible OOC. Florida is an important part of our puzzle, really just as important as NJ, Eastern PA, Delaware, Maryland and downstate NY have been for us. We're definitely trying to go after more Western PA players and we're definitely trying to start make real inroads to Virginia, Georgia, the Carolinas, Ohio and Michigan too.

Back on topic, going to the states Michigan or Indiana are a lot closer than Oklahoma or Louisiana. And beyond that we have way more in common institutionally with a Wisconsin or a Minnesota than we do with an SMU or a Memphis.

You won't find any Rutgers fans complaining. We were looking at road trips to Houston, Dallas, Boise and San Diego a couple of years ago. There are still a few Maryland upset with the move (although most of their complaints are about not playing Duke in basketball), but most that I know have come to terms and are excited about the future.

There's a home and home against Miami scheduled for 2018 and 2019. That's the only confirmed trip to Florida right now. From what I've been told, Rutgers has a definite strategy when it comes to future out of conference schedules. One game each year will be against a non-Big 10 P5 opponent. One will be against a regional G5 team or a G5 team in an important recruiting area. The last game each year will be offered to Army or Navy first, but if neither wants it, they'll look for a home game against another G5 team. There'll be a few years to clear out the existing commitments but that should be schedule going forward.

Who cares?

The B1G is its own universe, everyone else is insignificant.

The Saturday BTN prime time games are out and Rutgers has two of them. Penn State on 9/13 at 8 PM EDT and Michigan on 10/4 at 7 PM EDT

Distance doesn't mean anything when exposure will be much greater.

yeah, its not like Rutgers was playing the pre-Big East rotation the past 20+ years, or only staying with local opponents, we weren't playing like Princeton, Monmouth, TCNJ, Rutgers-Newark, Rutgers-Camden, NJIT, NYU, Kean. Big East and later AAC Football has always been long distances - other than like Temple, UConn and BC, everyone else was at least over 5 hours. Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami, Cincinnati, Louisville, South Florida, all long-ass drives or you needed to fly if you could afford it. Playing PSU, Maryland, OSU, MSU, Mich, etc no worse than anything we needed to travel to previously.

Getting to Columbus is easy. Drive west in I-80 until you hit Cleveland, then hang a left on I-71.

And then regret that you drove, since there are only three parts of Ohio that are a royal headache to find parking on the scale that people from the East Coast are used to, and one of them is downtown Columbus on game day.

It wouldn't have mattered if we were playing in the PAC-12; it's still a better option than the American would have been.

The PAC-12 would still be awfully far. But if you are getting on a plane to play a game, getting on a plane to go to a Big Ten, SEC, ACC or Big12 game would surely offset an extra hour or two in the air.

In the American, the only games where we wouldn't get on a plane are Temple, UConn and Navy -- and Navy was going into the West division. It was no longer the Big East; it's the big "East of the Rockies Almost Playing P5 Football" conference.

That's my point ~ the west coast is a long enough plane trip that it would start to be a grind constantly flying back and forth between the coasts ... but so long as you are getting on a plane anyway, there's not a whole lot of difference in flying from New Jersey to most anywhere in the eastern half of the US.

And to think the old Big East had hopes of setting up a Big East of Reno, Nevada conference, going as far as San Diego (which I'm sure everyone will be aware is a part of the State of California that is actually east of Reno, Nevada).
