Status of Nike contract
We signed a 5 year contract with Nike back in 2008. It was reportedly worth $11.3 Million.

Apparently, Louisville just inked a 5 year deal with addidas worth $39 Million.

Our Nike contract either recently expired or is about to expire. Has their been any word on renewing with Nike or going with somebody new?

I thought I read somewhere that The AAC had signed a deal with Nike.

I hope we stay with Nike too.

I like Nike too, although I think UA is making tremendous strides in performance gear, including shoes.....Wouldn't wear ADIDAS, I really think it's a real culprit in DRose struggles.....I remember trying on a pair of ADIDAS and almost broke my ankle! And I was just on a carpeted floor......scared the heck outta me! Ever since that moment,Never again....Feel bad for DRose....those shoes are no bueno!

If Nike is too ignorant or careless to see the difference between PMS280 blue and the light royal blue that they provide for Memphis, maybe we should explore other possibilities. If the problem is on UofM's end, the same goes for the individual(s) responsible if they refuse to make a correction.

Or maybe we should go with the shoe company that gives us the best chance to compete

Can't say I disagree, until Under Armour has more AAU connections, they still are not a major player at the Nike/Adidas level.

Yep, best mix of money, exposure, focus, and AAU connections. Agree completely.

One company will give us better products, more money, and a pipeline to better recruits.

the other may promise to please one crotchety old man by making more stuff in a color that we do not currently use, give us less money and no pipeline ..

and you want to choose the first? 03-shhhh

RE: Status of Nike contract
Two factors key factors you're all overlooking....1) Nike has their second largest presence in the US in Memphis...second only to Oregon....and 2) the top executive for Nike in Memphis was on the committee that hired both the AD and head football coach. Tigers/Nike relationship not likely to end.

RE: Status of Nike contract
The NIKE contract actually expired on June 30th of last year... I'm looking now for anything that happened to renew it around the time...

EDIT: It looks like because it was signed later that it actually expired 12/18/2013.

That 40 M Louisville deal is one of the top 3 in the country. I believe behind only Notre Dame and Michigan.

The jerseys at the Blue and Gray game had the Nike logo on it... I would hope we're not wearing it for free.

GA would fight for a sponsorship from Riddell if they provided the correct shades of blue and gray.

In fact, if this wasn't the 'off season,' the thread could grow to 15 or 16 pages without a knowledgeable post. 03-wink
