I don't think we will have to worry about it, I think Monty is gone after this next season.

Glad his contract was extended. We are on the rise, and this will definitely help with recruiting.

Do you really think there is school that will pay him 4 million for 4 years after next year? Next year will be the first time he has a winning record. They will be over 150 coaches that have winning records next year and several qualified assistants. I hope he is gone next year because that means NIU finally made it to March Madness but you need a little bit of luck and a lot of talent.

Didn't he only have 1 year left on his deal? You had to extend him.

MM needs to do much more then just a good season next year. We are just back to somewhat respectable.

I think if NIU makes a deep MAC tourney run next season, say getting to the finals, he is gone. NIU got into the national news with that EMU game a few years back for futility. The rate of change of where the program will be at 9 months from now , compared to just 2 and a half years ago, that will open some eyes, someone will snag him. I could see him going to some lower level SEC program. I also think having the Izzo-connection must look pretty good on your "resume"

Crazy for sure but crazy +3 more wins (Mac tournament championship game +2 NCAA tournament victories) equals a five year $7.5 million offer from one of the big boys. Long shot for sure but a number of other coaches have done it recently

I don't know if he can take NIU to a MAC championship game next year which is entirely possible, I think he gets some offers. Its the delta that's important. He took one of the laughing stocks in college basketball and possibly has this team on the cusp of being one of the better teams in the MAC. That kind of turnaround does not go unnoticed.

Unless he goes midway into the ncaa tourney, he's going to have to have more than one winning season before he's hired away.

I just don't know about that, its one of the biggest turnarounds in the NCAA right now , that gets people's attention

When you play like complete garbage one year of course it's going to be a huge turnaround numbers wise when the team stops playing like a YMCA team and starts playing more like a real basketball team.

"Beef up the schedule?" Are you effin kidding me? The huskies played five NCAA tournament teams. Not sure howa harder schedule than that benefits a Mac team. It ain't like a higher RPI will get you in the. NCAA tourney from a one bid league.

Nebraska Omaha, San Jose St, UC Riverside, James Madison, Loyola. How about more teams between 100 -200. Can you tell how good we are from above? I think playing teams that are decent helps with MAC play. EMU use to start out 10-0 every year by playing garbage. The coach had a good record but stunk in Conference play.

Non-conf play for NIU in basketball is completely meaningless, its all about winning the MAC and getting to the NCAA tourney. The only benefit it can have is if you generate some excitement/attendance boost with a few attractive home opponents once in awhile
