OT-- CSF Baseball Coach on Administrative Leave...
...after reports of excessive post-game punishment to players following the series loss to Cal Poly (and preseason #2 ranked Titans falling out of the top 25). Apparently, he really lit into his players, and had them running endless laps around the field. It didn't help that he mouthed off to Eric Sorenson in a post-game interview in which he berated his players. Como se dice, "melt down"?

I don't see much wrong with the quote from Sorenson. Not defending his treatment of his players, but this is far from the worst thing a coach has said about his players...

Quote:“They’re a soft group,” Vanderhook said. “And if they keep doing what they’re doing, they’re going to be the first team from Fullerton not to play in the postseason in 26 years.”

I think that's something that a coach can tell his team directly, and can even let it be known to the media indirectly that he told his team that (e.g. through an asst. coach or by repeating it to his team that in a team meeting with the press within earshot) but it's not something he should say in an interview about the team. But I'll grant you that mine is a fine line.

I certainly wouldn't want to call them a "soft group" in public. The rest is not a big deal, IMHO.
