(04-21-2014 12:05 PM)msm96wolf Wrote:  I agree what the AAC did this year was impressive. It would have been far better to occur this upcoming season. Re-alignment basically comes to fruition this season. This is the first G5 and P5 seasons officially on the books and those labels will be started to be used. Much like the dreaded mid-major and non-bcs terms. It will be important for on field success for a school to try and stay at the P5 table. If the upcoming P5 rules pass, it will be only certain schools being brought up to the P5 table not an entire conference in maybe the next 5 - 10 years. I have given up hope we will ever go back to traditional regional conferences, that Pandora's box is open.

You are delusional and just making stuff up.

The American conference was formed THIS year basically. 10 teams all sports. It had 2 future P5 schools in it and the rest of the league fared very well against them. That in itself shows the "actual" disparity on the field/court. Programs are making significant investments at a "P5" level.

In terms of the "rules"...the American will be playing by the same rules the P5 will have. There will be no differences. ZERO. The changes are really only who is in charge.

That and the disparity of the TV contracts $ received are the only difference between the P5 and the American. ONLY. Sure, the Contract Bowl Agreements are there, but that's a made for TV event anyway....and the American can earn their way into the same game....as well as earn their way into the playoff (which will leave some P5 champs out).

P5 is a term for the 2 differences I listed (as well admittedly as the contract bowls) that the media has run with to mean lots of other non related things. Fly-by fans are easily influenced by the fly-by media...guys like Dennis Dodd among others. The American will be there every step of the way with the P5 and has the opportunity to play in a contract bowl every year, get into the playoff, and raise its TV revenue. So not having a seat at the table can actually be fairly meaningless.

Dude, chill. It is an opinion, not a fact. All, I am saying is that this season is when things start to count. But if you truly believe the AAC is even with the P5 at the present moment, I don't think I would be calling me delusional. ;-)

I did not make up the term G5 or just pull it out of the air that the G5 consists of the AAC, MWC, SB, CUSA and MAC. Hey I don't argue for one second you guys are definitely the tallest and strongest midget in this group. ;0)

If UCONN got a B10 or B12 offer, how fast do you think they bolt like WVU? Actually, I am surprised UCONN has not gotten a P5 offer, but I really did not want them in the ACC. I think the ACC is 2.5 teams to big already. Love the Louisville pick-up, but really did not like the Pitt and Syracuse pickup or the ND partial. Sadly, that was needed to keep the ACC in the P5.

Peace out.

Exactly. So, the original question has been answered.

This is exactly why MAC fans don't like AAC fans (in general).

MAC had a bad year, no question. NIU was worse in 2013 than they were in 2012, no question. But it's ONE year. AAC and MWC are better, I'm not questioning that. But not by that much.

E$PN rips on the MAC at least as much as everyone else, typically, by ignoring us (except, as noted above, when we're on TV). Even then, the announcers spend half our game talking about the "big" game coming up between a couple P5 schools.

I think that it is more than one year. In 2012-2013 bowls the MAC went 2-7. The MAC's only wins, which were by CMU and Ohio, over Sun Belt opponents WKU and ULM. In most other games the MAC schools were blasted.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...l-schedule

The year before that we were 4-1. And we're losing UMass in a couple year so that will help some with OOC losses in the regular season. The MAC did real bad before that but I'm talking recently.

BTW - I do appreciate the AAC/Big East's help in getting us to the Orange Bowl. With a bunch of AAC losses to MAC teams which NIU subsequently beat, that boosted us in the rankings. So thank you.

You are officially the troll of the year.

Well at least you admitted that the 4-1 mark in 2011-2012 was a high water mark for the MAC and being bad is the norm.

You stated those opinions as fact...

You just admitted that G5 and P5 consists of certain conferences now, but previously stated that re-alignment really didnt come to fruition until next season. Whatever. Sure re-alignment isn't completely finished, but that in no way diminishes what happened in the American this season.

So no...this season isn't really when it starts...it already started. The American's basketball TV contract was its first year. This was the American's first year of branding. It gets tourney credits for all of its members. I have heard it from ACC fans in the past...they want to explain away the shortcomings the ACC had by saying "well...Louisville". When L-ville is just replacing Maryland.

Sorry to counter your statements (which were really opinions), but I felt they needed to be clarified.

Only time will tell to see how it breaks down. I just have a feeling there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth after the NCAA vote happens to grant autonomy. One thing is for sure, better to be looking from the inside instead of the outside. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that the G5 and 1AA schools that vote for it, will end up having a lot of P5 away games pay days compared to those who don't vote for it. The only thing I know for certain, I am ready for College Football to start back up.

We didn't help ourselves by neglecting our programs for most of the 70s and 80s (though that's when we had Tommy Kramer and Ricky Pierce, arguably our two most famous football and basketball players in modern times) but we've had some bad luck too.

Think about it from the MAC perspective. In football, the American is a G5 conference. It doesn't have a tie-in to a contract bowl or really any elite level bowl tie-ins. Its TV contract is much more comparable to the MAC's than to any of the P5 conferences. The AAC might have a better collection of schools and a larger TV contract than the MAC, but for all intensively purposes, both conferences are in the same boat for football.

All of the rhetoric coming from the American; however, paints a different picture. The American and AAC fans have been pretty consistent in saying "we aren't a G5 conference", "we aren't like those other non-power conferences", "we are a power conference", "we are a lot closer to the P5 than the MAC". Now, one could argue that that is simply good marketing on the American's part and that it is ever conference for itself. However, I can also see where that type of thinking/marketing could rub other G5 fans the wrong way. It is, after all, the same type of attitude that many P5 fans have toward the American.

The year the AAC has had on the field and on the court this year is UNPRECEDENTED for ANY "G5" conference.

That need to identify is flattering but out of touch with what is going on in the AAC. This year is "rare air" for ANY conference.

Do you really believe your last sentence? If you do then you don't have much of a knowledge base concerning college sports. Winning a national championship in basketball and a BCS bowl in the same year by a conference has been fairly common in the BCS era. Matter of fact, it happens more often than not. Heck, the AAC did it last year too. Well, Louisville did it last year.

Recheck your facts----Winning a BCS game, a mens basketball national championship, and a womens basketball national championship (part of our on the court performance--as well as an NIT final appearance) in the same athletic season is much rarer than you think. Frankly, I can't remember it ever being done, though with UConn's women's basketball dominance, its possible the old Big East pulled it off before.

No offense to UCONN fans, but not many people care about women's basketball. With that said, I repeat that the AAC did it last year - Louisville men's BB, Louisville BCS bowl, UCONN women's basketball.

It may be true that many dont care about womens basketball...but the presence of the national champs in the conference can elevate all of the programs in the conference.

ECU not only built a practice addition/new locker rooms/meeting rooms, etc...for its men's team, it also did it for the women's team. National championships are more important than conference championships...so winning those means not only that your conference won it, but the P5 didn't. Just being able to say that keeps the whole system a bit more honest.

You say that like it somehow invalidates the AAC prominence argument. Does it really matter if the run started last year, if it's still the AAC?

How is this any different than beating off to USM, La Tech, MTSU, ODU etc that you guys do on the CUSA board. You just do it over a one bid league and somehow talk yourself into all it's glory and greatness.
