Christian Harden. 6'4 195 WR from Hermitage

Tyler Wilkins. 6'3 190 WR/SS from LC Byrd.

Holy cow. Talk about upgrading in size if all these guys pan out.

yea, along with the 6'5" PA recruit, that is a huge WR core.

Hey i went to read the article but all i saw was the headline. no article or body underneath. Can you repost? I haven't heard of Stapleton and would like to...

"The numbers spoke and Riley Stapleton listened.

After such a great season on the football field, how could he give up the sport now?

Stapleton, a senior at Indiana High School, changed his mind last week and decided he wants to play football in college. And after thinking over his options, Stapleton has decided he wants to play at James Madison University.

On Friday, Stapleton let the world know via Twitter, that he has made a verbal commitment to the school, based in Harrisonburg, Va.

James Madison is an NCAA Division I FCS school that competes in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The announcement comes about six months after Stapleton gave a verbal commitment to play basketball at IUP.

“As football season went on, and all the things happened on and off the field, I just decided I couldn’t give up football yet,” Stapleton said. “I just love football too much.”

Stapleton, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound wide receiver, is coming off a record-setting season at Indiana, where he caught 69 passes for 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The receptions and yardage totals are school and Indiana County area single-season records. And he is the first player at any school in the Gazette coverage area to go over the 1,000-yard mark in a season.

What’s more, Stapleton holds the Gazette area and IHS records for career receptions (145) and receiving yardage (2,120). He also set the Indiana High record for receiving yards in a game, when he totaled 199 against Knoch on Oct. 17.

“This season was like no other season I’ve had,” Stapleton said. “It made me realize how much I love the game.”

The James Madison coaching staff had initially made Stapleton a scholarship offer last spring, but he felt basketball was the sport for him. But as his record-breaking season progressed, Stapleton began to waver on his verbal commitment to IUP. He made a visit to James Madison last month, and when he was told the offer was still good, he quickly made up his mind to head south.

“The campus is beautiful,” he said. “The stadium is amazing. The locker room and facilities are nice, and I like the coaching staff.”

The only downside to Stapleton’s football season was a leg injury he suffered in the eighth game of the regular season. He played through it, but when the season ended in the second round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs, he sought treatment and was on crutches for a while with a hairline fracture.

But Stapleton said he recently got word that the injury has healed quickly, and he should be able to take the floor for his senior season of basketball in a couple weeks for Indiana. After scoring 655 points the past two seasons, Stapleton is looking for big things this winter.

And if it goes really well, Stapleton might be forced to reconsider things again.

“I’m pretty much set on JMU right now,” he said, “but you never know. But I love both sports a lot. I just think this is the right move for me.”

Regardless of what happens, Stapleton is happy he doesn’t have any decisions hanging over his head. He can focus now on the future, wherever it leads.

“This just takes the pressure off,” he said. “Now I can enjoy the rest of the season.”

Thank you for posting. Hopefully this kid turns into Daniel Brown 2.0

i'm no talent scout by any means, but Stapleton seems to do a fantastic job of being a "hands catcher" instead of a "body catcher". seems to really come back to the ball aggressively and win jump balls. i really like what i'm seeing.

Did we ever really find out what happened with the two Manchester decommits? I know there was speculation the offers were pulled, but was any of that discussed elsewhere/confirmed/debunked?

Robinette and the QB from Pace Academy are BEASTS!

Interesting fact that the recruits listed are Southern Based kids with the exception of the PA and MD players. From PA to GA that is awesome!

This recruiting net is wide and deep it seems, especially considering the number of hired guns we had come in with Coach this year. Where we gonna put everybody? Hmmmm, need more spots it would appear...

I'm guessing in the neighborhood of 23. I know its sort of an odd number, but I'm going to leave it there.

RE: 2015 Football Recruits
We had about 20 guys that quit when Withers came on board. we may have more scholarship room than we think.

ON THE JOURNEY TO 9-3: We had 20 kids or somewhere right around there that quit. We had around 20 kids that said, 'You know what I'm not going to do, I can't do what you're asking me to do you.' And you know that's going to happen whether it's 20, whether its 10, whether it's three, whether it's four. What you're hoping is, you're hoping you have enough in your senior class that they've been through enough grown enough and they've matured enough that you keep a core group of those guys and we were lucky enough to do that. I got real emotional out there today because those guys fought...what we put them through in January, February and March should be illegal in some states. It really should be. For what we did and for those guys to fight through it and then grow and become a tight knit group, because they're really tight and for our coaches to embrace those guys to me is special. That's a special group of kids.

His sophomore tape is good, but he's apparently even more impressive now as a senior
