A tad off track here but can remember a while back when NIU partnered with Rockford Metrocentre for a few b-ball games to increase exposure/drum up support from that area but don't recall games being well received/attended. More recently KU football game comes to mind that wasn't sold out which doesn't reflect favorably for B12 consideration. Good thought starter though.

"A tad while back when NIU partnered with Rockford Metrocentre" was over thirty years ago. I remember seeing Terry Cummings with DePaul playing NIU in Rockford. The fun part was you could buy beer at a NIU game.

Agree.

Building a suburban football stadium with the expectation that NIU students traveling back to the suburbs for the weekend would go to a game is not logical. They are going home for a reason. Their motivation is likely a job and/or relationships back home. They would literally drive right past the football stadium, whether it were in DK or in Naperville to get home to whatever they are valuing there.

Having football on campus significantly lends to the university experience. You can't take that away. NIU is working to create a better on campus experience. A stadium elsewhere works against that 100%.

Worst thread ever. Indeed.

Then, NIU should never play at SF. Worst thread ever? come on. NIU is telling you they are working to create a better on campus experience. I believe less people are going to be around the stadium.

The million people discussed are already close enough support the team, in Dekalb.

They go home on the weekends because they don't care about the football team/university. Building a stadium in Naperville isn't going to change that. I just don't see any way in which this makes sense. It's only going to alienate the Dekalb community from the University even more so than it already is.

Well said

Who cares about the students! They are horrible

Maybe being closer to Chicago would draw a crowd!

Also if students bussed then they are stuck down there for full game!

I know you all think this was a stupid thread. NIU put a campus in Naperville, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Idea has been discussed.

I would.

No way it has been discussed unless someone other than NIU is funding it.

A campus for mostly post-grad studies...near the population of potential clients. Comparing that and building a new foosball stadium are apples and oranges.. As in one makes sense and the other doesn't.

NIU also has campuses in Hoffman Estates and Rockford, doesn't mean the idea was discussed to put a football stadium at either location.

I think they should put a nice, big, new stadium in South Suburban Harvey. Their economy is in shambles and they can use the economic boost. We may need a full time staff to remove the graffiti on a daily basis, but it's a small price to pay for moving to a denser population area.

Nobody doesn't go to NIU games because of the extra 25 minutes it takes to get to DeKalb from Aurora.

For those of you crying about students going home on the weekends being a problem for football attendance...Since when do we play football on the weekends?
