Might as well rename UC as Southwest Ohio State University (SOSU) so we have a name in line with the multi direction schools we will compete against MTSU, ECU, SWLS, etc. Sad friggin sad. In 11 years the new additions to Nippert will be used for sound studios.

Hosting a conference tournament generates a good economic impact for the city but really does little for the UC athletic program. Mick will have the Bearcats in the NCAA Tourney regardless in the coming years and "home" teams don't necessarily fare any better in these events.

With the news of the day that the NCAA is going to deregulate a number of the rules regarding conference championship games for football I think the chance for a P5 invite has essentially sailed. UC is stuck in a crap conference with no life boat. Game. Set. Match. 03-banghead

[sarcasm] Yup it's all over... Might as well just cancel the season, the program, etc... Burn down Nippert, tear down 5/3.... Go all academic. [/sarcasm]

Jeez. Man up already. Either be a fan and stick with the team or go trade your red-and-black for scarlet-and-silver already.

Yes. It sucks. WE GET THAT. I'm not happy about things either. But for God's sake, get over it.

Pretty sure 2015 was not an option at all due to US Bank being committed to Ringling Bros. during the same time frame.

Heard about a change to the food stipend rule (after Shabazz's comment too) and talk of a change to the one-&-done rule, but nothing of this. This needs it's own thread perhaps?

It came from here...
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...era-begins

Quote:"The so-called deregulation of conference title games would allow leagues to select the teams without the required round-robin divisional play. That becomes an issue as the ACC goes into the second season of 14 members (seven in each division) in football.

“You wouldn't necessarily have to have divisions,” Swofford said.

“You could look at several different ways -- the two best winning percentages within the conferences. That would be a pretty sophisticated tiebreaker.”

Just using last season as a template, three conferences would have had problems deciding the participants based on conference records alone -- Big 12, SEC, Pac-12.

Deregulation also would diminish the likelihood of a devastating upset that could knock a conference out of the four-team playoff. Think of an 8-4 division winner beating an 11-1 opponent ranked in the top five. In that case, neither team gets in.

Both Swofford and Big 12 counterpart Bob Bowlsby said they could possibly use the rankings from the selection committee to select their two teams. That presents other issues: The AP and coaches' polls are basically out because neither will be used to determine playoff participants. Meanwhile, the committee has been vague how often it will release its top 25 during the season."

And maybe it does deserve it's own thread, but I'll let someone else start it.

Council approves unlimited meals
Updated: April 15, 2014, 6:22 PM ET
Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA's legislative council has approved a proposal to expand the meal allowance for athletes.

If approved by the board of directors April 24, Division I schools could provide unlimited meals and snacks to everyone who plays a college sport, including walk-ons.

Tuesday's vote came eight days after Shabazz Napier closed out Connecticut's championship run by complaining that he sometimes went to bed "starving" because he couldn't afford food.

Committee members also voted to reduce the penalty for a first positive drug test from a full season to a half season if it's not for a performance-enhancing drug. The NCAA only tests during championship events.

The council also approved a measure to create a three-hour break between preseason football practices.

All changes would take effect Aug. 1.

While not passed yet, it says deregulation is "expected to fly through" and that there is "no push back from other conferences." So, there are still possibilities, but a big point of hope has been taken off the table. Why now? This article is mainly about the ACC.

I don't disagree... Someone asked where the news came from, I merely supplied the source.

That was not a comment on you Jerry. It seems that after the Northwest unionization lawsuit, the Napier comments, and years of criticism from the talking heads in general the NCAA has suddenly become open to the idea of change to placate their power programs.

No, just the mounting external pressure on their patently unfair business model and a desire to keep the status quo for those reaping the benefits of that model. Management throws out some meaningless concessions while continuing to ignore the larger issue. So yeah, dodged that union bullet.

How the hell do you go to bed "starving" on the meal plan the regular students buy, much less what they give the athletes?

Jeesh, any time he wanted to he could bring in his backpack and load it up with pounds of food to bring back to his dorm. Even if he was spotted, no one would care.

Taking food away from a training table to eat later is (will be was) an NCAA violation of providing extra benefits.

So no, he couldn't just load up his backpack.
