If he returns, that is by far the best recruit in the league.

RE: WMU...David Brown!
A Toledo football player made the same argument (major injuries in two separate seasons) and the NCAA denied his request.

On the flip side, there have been basketball players with less of a case who have been granted the 6th year. While nothing is a given, the case for DB getting a 6th year and coming back next season looks very good.

If DB does come back, that means WMU will only lose one contributor from this season, Shayne Whittington. While Whittington was a beast, I would imagine this makes WMU the MACC favorites going into next year.

Quick synopsis of the circumstances? Surprised he wouldn't ride a great year like this into a nice pro career somewhere.

brown will probably have a short career in hoops college or pro. his knees are pretty shot already. being that he's really good at this level I think the chance to play another yr with a strong college team close to home, get another free yr of school, etc... is more alluring than making 60 grand in Latvia.

He's a year from his masters degree, he wants to get that, especially with his injury history in basketball. Plus, he knows how great WMU can be this coming year.

That'd be 4 of 5 starters returning (if Brown stays) and we'll be among the top 3 projected MACC contenders when the preseason rags come out. But Whittington was pretty significant contributor - 16 ppg - so we'll have some pretty big shoes to fill there.

You would have to imagine. That is correct. Imagining WMU as leader isnt likely and if true would speak more about the other squads.
Toledo is the odds on favorite.
Ohio has pieces. I like the freshman big they have. He and the skinny kid should wreek havoc.
Guard play is crucial but the Tex transfer and a healthy Taylor can both play.
NIU is on the uptick even without Highsmith. If healthy they will be pushing the boundary.
Two bigs at Akron are more than credible. Do they have the guards to defend, not turn it over, get the ball to the bigs and make the occassional "keeping you honest" jumper?
WMU lost the "edge" with Whittington. The bench contributed in other ways than scoring. But Whittington leaves a very hole to fill with points. Until the bench can prove otherwise you can bet on them but it will be with your money, not mine.

Whittington, along with Pearson and Kellog will play in the Portsmouth Invitational.
