That's what makes it interesting since they both want mostly the same schools (the SEC would have at least a couple no votes on UT and OU)

id like to see University of New York (aka Buffalo) but they are 2 far behind in athletics.

UConn and Buffalo. Book it.

This^^^^

Gives the B1G a solid contiguous block of wealthy, populous northeastern states (MD, PA, NY, NJ, CT) with HUGE markets. The proximity of UConn and Rutgers to NYC plus a NY state university will give the B1G a major presence in the country's #1 market.

If BIG wants to expand soon.
1. MIZZU (if they would want to leave SEC).
2. UCONN (to add a basketball power and bigger foot print in NYC).

After GOR
1. Kansas (it's going to happen 90% sure).
2. Virginia (20% chance they accept. This would add an academic power house, additional exposure in DC Market and fertile recruiting ground).
3. Texas (a real long shot. This would be a grand slam as far as sports, media, academics, research, recruiting, ect).
4. Oklahoma (a lot hinges on Kansas and Texas. Oklahoma is a powerhouse in sports. Nebraska wants to renew old rivalry with OK. Academics are a stumbling block and possibly OK State as well).
5. North Carolina (at best 10% chance and that might be high. Big fish with great sports, academics and national appeal).
6. Georgia Tech (this would be a Segway into the Atlanta Media Market and they have great academics, good recruiting area).
7. Florida State (great football, great recruiting area and Florida Media Market. Academics would be a concern for BIG Presidents to overlook).
8. Vanderbilt (can't see them leaving SEC. Elite academics, foot print in Nashville Media Market).
9. Miami (good football, great recruiting area, good academics, Miami Media Market).
10. Duke (like NC 10% chance. Great basketball, great academics and national appeal in Basketball).

Another vote for Kansas and UConn. Great hoops and new markets for the network, nonthreatening football, public flagship schools, and no risk of another embarrassing rejection.

Buffalo and McGill satisfies their AAU "requirement" and brings New York and Canada into the Big 10.

Since this is unlikely to happen for 10+ years, it allows Buffalo enough time to surpass UConn in football, although they may do it much sooner than that.

Well we pasted them the last time the two teams played 03-wink

I was really hoping to see more 1:1 with UConn. It's a good match for Buffalo given our 40K alumni in metro NYC...

RE: 4/14/14 - Expansionistas Big Ten Prediction Poll
Kansas will be in the mix somehow. There really aren't any AAU schools left without raiding the ACC (Virginia) or SEC (Vanderbilt, and Vandy has too many southern/SEC ties to leave that conference).

Virginia just isn't leaving the ACC, and I believe North Carolina when they say the same.

So that leaves Kansas and a partner.

The possible partners:
1. Missouri- this is the most likely. Stick it to the ol' SEC AND lock up St Louis and KC to boot, and bring a big rivalry back. Before last season I'd say they'd go. Question: if they know they can play bigtime ball in the SEC - do they stick with it - or think about all the wins they'd be getting in the B10?

2. UConn- if Mizzou is a no-go, then its UConn - who will of course agree. (UConn will have AAU status by the time all is said and done).

I think this is the map. The only other question would be if the B1G decides to defy convention and go w/18, probably adding Iowa State (which is AAU) and one more surprise. This would only happen if team #18 is such a get (Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Virginia) that its more than worthwhile.

03-cloud9 KU and OU would be a dream ticket for Delany and the Big Ten. There is a consensus here that many feel KU is in the mix to be one of the next two selected. I think KU jumps to the Big Ten immediately if asked. OU would be harder to bring in because of OSU and OU's ties with Texas. OU seems like an add to me only if they go to a 20 team league. The other point that seemed relevant , so far, is that the Big Ten has opened a full service office in NYC and a smaller one in D.C. This strongly indicates the Big Ten has planned to further expand in the east. Hence, I'll modify my initial choices here and say the next two adds will be KU and Virginia. In athletic terms, the Big Ten's new identity would be as the dominant basketball league in the country (if not already there) with solid and attention getting football. Truth is, to stay as primarily a northern league, there are no dominant football schools (except perhaps ND who will never join the Big Ten) to pick from anymore. KU gives Neb a Big 12 buddy on its western flank. AAU Virginia makes to the PSU, UMD , Rutgers schools an interesting and competitive regional pod (D.C. office?).

I believe the last 20 team conference was the Southern Conference and it did not work well. I do not believe that a twenty team Big 10 will work either. 07-coffee3

When it comes to Big Money and long term stability, OU would probably do what's best for Them. This happening means the Big12 is breaking up. Also reunited with Nebraska would take the pain of leaving Texas and OSU a little less difficult. Those were legendary games throughout Football history.

Agree...the Big Ten should max out at 16.

If Mizzou would come, I think they're ahead of OU. Otherwise, this is the ticket if you are going to stop at 16.

They don't have to "leave" Texas just because they are in different conferences. They have only been together for less than 20 years. I doubt the Red River Rivalry stops because of this.

But I find it interesting that you said OK won't leave UT, but said nothing about OSU.

I also find it interesting that nobody seems to question whether Kansas would go to the B1G. What if the SEC were to ask them first? Would that change your mind?

Yea people saying Mo will leave the SEC are nuts... Neither the B1G can't poach the SEC or vice versa.

THe only "power" conferences that can be poached are the ACC and B12. And even in the B12 you are not going to separate TU and OU
