Women's tourney needs to be in Connecticut every year until someone else proves able to fill their venue. The only other sites that would have had good enough attendance (Louisville and Rutgers) are no longer options.

USF seems to be on the rise (not to mention a lot of Connecticut snowbirds) so maybe we look at Tampa.

Last time I checked, Dallas was bigger than all of those cities except Houston and Philly...and if you include DFW metroplex, bigger than Philly.

Can we get some love?? 03-hissyfit

Sorry, my geography is Jersey-centric! It's hard to see further west than Philadelphia!

You might get your wish.

Local paper UCF beat writer is tweeting that Orlando will get the 2016 and 2017 tournaments (didn't say if it would be at UCF's on-campus arena or the downtown Amway Center...which I doubt would ever get half filled if the tourn is located there)

It says Amway in the article.

I hope UCF is better by 2016. Orlando is a great vacation destination and I would love to make that an annual trip.

Nervous about UCF (probably Amway) hosting the AAC tourney. Our fanbase is more on the football side but Orlando will bring the traveling fans.

It's pretty tough to beat during when spring break normally is to have multiple beaches on the Atlantic less than an hour away, great beaches on the gulf 90 minutes away. Disney, Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, City Walk, Islands of Adventure, SeaWorld, Aquatica (and multiple other water parks) within 15-30 minutes of where the game will take place. It will still be spring training and both the Astros (for both Houston Astros Fans in existence) and the Braves play in the Orlando/Kissimmee area. Orlando will also have an MLS team (stadium is being constructed walking distance from the Amway center) and that is typically right around opening week. There are plenty of bars, but Orlando isn't your quintessential drinking town.

There are tons of hotels, SunRail starts in 2 weeks and has a stop right by the arena (although, needs to expand before useful for these purposes, it's more the mon-friday commute).

That being said UCF basketball needs to step up their game. We know we can't just turn into UCONN both on the court and in the stands tomorrow, but there needs to be a 2 year focus starting yesterday. A smaller scale of what you would see for the Olympics or World Cup or Orlando may have some egg on their faces after this one.

Also you may want to start saving now.....it may take that long for a family of 4 to afford this one.

Plus, given recent Orlando area history, it's probable that you'll get to personally witness the verdict in a nationally watched homicide trial.

Me too. Orlando is obviously a great destination to host ANYTHING in March while it's still mostly cold and miserable everywhere else. But I'm skeptical about how well the community will support it. I know schools like Memphis, UConn, Cincy, etc., will bring their share of fans, but I don't know if it's enough to keep the Amway Center from looking like an empty cavern for most games. If Aresco thinks UCF fans will come in droves to support the non-UCF games, he'll be sadly mistaken. Heck, I'm skeptical if UCF fans show up in droves at our OWN games. It kills me to say that, but it's true.

The Hartford decision is a good one and well deserved by UConn and their fans. One year in Orlando, but don't understand the decision for 2 years at all. I'm not complaining because once the Tigers lost the crowds didn't show for the tournament here, but there must be unknown factors in the 2nd year for Orlando.

Congrats UConn fans/Hartford and UCF fans/Orlando.

It's like that almost everywhere.....don't be bothered/embarrassed/etc. We've got rabid college basketball and NBA fans, but once the Tigers lost, the crowds shrunk. Two consecutive years was a curious choice, but we will live with it, plan for it, and move on.

Congrats UConn fans/Hartford and UCF fans/Orlando.

My guess is Orlando made a huge financial commitment for the AAC championship. Really shocked that the city did anything for UCF or our conference.

I would have figured it would rotate between Memphis, Uconn, and Cincy.

...and I think that it will eventually. We got bit with a loss in the first round and it lessened our support for the tourney.. It happens and I understand the conference pulling out of Memphis for a few years. It will be back in this city at some point and be rotated among appropriate cities. I'd think that Dallas would be a legitimate host also based on SMU's progress and the city itself.

Aresco says desire to move tournament around and the tremendous bid from Hartford were keys to decision.

I think this is a mistake for Orlando to host the tourney. There aren't free ticket for students (half of the UCF games are students) and I doubt there were be much local support for the tourney.
