Not so sure. He has already given up three hits and two walks in less than two innings. Our margin of safety is not that large.

Admittedly true, but, Jon needs to learn how to get people out without his best stuff.

RE: Rice @ Tulane (Sunday, Game 3)
Wow, Tulane plays the school song to fire up the troops. I'm getting misty.

All right, a called third strike on the first batter by Duplantier.

But then a single by Garner spoils the moment. I was still celebrating the strikeout. So, one on with one out for Hope who Ks on three pitches.

Two outs to Kaplan, scorer of 2/7 of the Tulane runs today. Kaplan walks putting runners on first and second with two outs.

It's DiMaggio again. Duplantier walks the bases loaded. A lot of bases loaded situations today.

Duplantier quickly gets two strikes before throwing two balls but then gets the call on strike three, annoying the fans, well some of the fans. Not us of course.

To the eighth we go, 2:21 into the game wih the Owls still leading 10-7.
Zamjahn returns.

I just got back, but am very surprised The OG let Teykl go so long, given he threw 5.2 innings on Tuesday in winning the game against UT. I also discount the two tack on runs he allowed in the first inning, as he had insufficient time to warm up.

As for Duplantier, if Wayne and Patrick could just get him to throw strikes consistently, he'd be a stud. Almost every game, he suddenly and inexplicably loses his concentration and his control for 2 - 3 batters at a time.

Going to get some more iced tea. Feel free to score some runs in my absence.

It was great that we bombed Massey and France, but they're actually better pitchers than the scrubs who have pretty much shut us down ever since. It's like we had one great inning and then went back into our offensive cave.

I don't disagree, but I would rather see him learn that lesson against Lamar than in a critical conference game. Because, if he fails to learn, we pay a heavy price.

And with who do you suggest we replace him? Throwing Ditman for a third consecutive game is a risk, but certainly not for more than one inning. Smith is to wild his first inning out to risk....and for whatever reason, Orewiler and McCarthy haven't pitched in a couple weeks.

If is a big word. Tell you what. If I win a multimillion dollar lottery, I will give you ten thousand.

Using your own words, the OG probably felt he did not have a lot to replace him with. And Tekyl was doing great.

Clutch 2-out double by Chase to score Shane (infield hit) with an insurance run.

Good guys lead 11-7 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning.

RE: Rice @ Tulane (Sunday, Game 3)
Ewing leads off and grounds to third for the first out.

Hoelscher grounds one past third for his third hit of the game.

One down, one on, brings Teykl to bat. He strikes out and is this Nolan Ryan on the mound or what?

Two outs, one on, and McDowell bats with Hoelscher somewhere out on the basepaths. He goes to 3-2 before hitting an RBI double. Hooray. It's now 11-7 or 7-11 for the Green persons. 03-shhhh There goes SlimJim and we were just starting to enjoy his pitching.

So, it's pitcher number 5, Gibaut, also a made up name, possibly an alias, I think, a Soph from Lamar who has pitched 2 innings this year.

Gibaut gets an out to destroy our fun but the Owls lead now 11-7 going to the bottom of the eighth.

Jon's upside is very high, in my opinion. This is why I thought it was worth the risk. Also, Graham and the coaches know their players, so much better than I do. They are all about putting them in a position to succeed. I got lucky and thought along with Wayne. He has certainly made some great calls this weekend, starting Kop today and McCanna Friday.

I have just learned that Gibaut and Zamjahn are in fact not mythological characters, nor are they fictional as I had believed. Apologies to the mythological characters.

11-7, top of nine? Nope, top of eight.

I agree with you that he probably has some high upside. If I recall correctly, Townsend suffered some control problems his frosh year.

It is my recollection that Wade didn't record an out during Fall Ball his Freshman year!

Jon is a scout's dream body as a freshman. A very easy 90. He just needs the bulldog in him to come out.

Duplantier gets two balls to short but one is ruled a hit on a wide throw by Ford.

A liner to second gets the second out. Now I'm just getting lazy, leaving out names, as Deschamp doubles to put runners on second and third with just one out. The buzzards are circling as

Garner comes to the plate. McCarthy is in the pen. Ooowee, a popout ends the eighth and it's 11-7 Owls.
