Pre season practices. Designate one day a week to a game type scrimmage in the main arena with officials. You can have both men and women's teams participate. Run ads inviting public. Admission will be cans of food that will be collected and donated to the food banks. Have a concession stand open and give out free popcorn with each drink purchased or even give free drinks also.
Have Chris or someone from the AD office welcoming those in attendance.
Jonathan and Leah could also do the welcoming. And let them know that if they purchase season tickets at one of the pre season scrimmages, they will receive a discount of some sort.
Run ads and get words out to the schools. Children must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Get some local sponsors so they can get their message out to the fans. Have just a single sheet program with the players name, number and classification available. The fans will begin to recognize the players, and you know that some will enjoy it enough to purchase tickets. If they don't want season tickets initially, offer a series of three individual tickets that can use when they choose.
This is a pretty simple idea to create interest. Invite the media to attend these sessions. Make them feel welcome. Other practices can be closed where coaches can say or do whatever they want without any scrutiny. But this one scrimmage a week, on a regular day, and publicized well, will definitely create interest in the program and also help our food bank programs for the needy.
