RE: New Uniforms!
^ heard the same thing. I like the crown logo. It seems original. State logo not so much. The state logo kind of reminds me of one of those optical illusions where what you see changes based on how you look at it. All the business inside the state outline detracts from actually seeing the state. It just looks scrambled and busy.A cleared outline would be better.

I can live with that

RE: New Uniforms!
I'd love for ODU to create a simple, easily recognizable, logo. Why not just the crown?

I don't get why the sleeve and number is black. What's wrong with our school color?
Sweet helmet though and better than the last jersey.

That's not black, it's navy or ODU blue (Pantone 540). The lighting just makes it look darker than it is.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear it. This is a sharp looking jersey

Would they use the blue or white style of this helmet with this uniform?

That would look amazing with a metallic looking all blue pants. IMO.

Okay, I'll just have to take your word for it ahah. Do these jerseys have the flywire collar?

Love the jersey, hate the helmet. Can't use just the crown, because it's not yet recognizable, and the school has switched from the puffy crown to the grappling hook, crane game crown that is too thin and indistinguishable to be any type of mark without the words. What if we just put the whole lion with paw up logo on the helmet? That's the best one we have. Type would be small, but at least it's a good looking mark.

What logo change are you referring to in the bold sentence? The lion paw logo is way too intricate for a helmet IMO. You'd have to make a really big decal. I love these new Navy style helmets. Looks great.

Yep, I agree with this. All of the coaches wear the crown logo on apparel too. The lion paw logo is good for mid court/field.

Are we for sure getting new pants too? Why are some of y'all saying the Navy style helmets won't be used? Hard to tell from the picture. Do these have the flywire collar?

Love the helmets, love the crown logo. The only other usable logo in my opinion is the interlocking ODU, and I much prefer the crown.

I agree. The new crown logo I was referring to above is the new "academic" logo. The old academic logo used the same crown as everything else. It was pretty good thinking since it tied academics to athletics to the architecture (since the crown is in tons of signage and built into the Ted). The new crown doesnt look like a crown to me at first glance. More like a grappling hook or the claw from the coin op crane game. Its also too thin to show up well on anything from a distance and is unrecognizable as an ODU icon without the long "Old Dominion University" underneath it. You can see it on the homepage http://www.odu.edu. The puffy "Hampton Coliseum" crown isnt perfect, but it has history and identity. It also can be seen from a distance. Its one of the few elements ODU has that go back twenty plus years. It was the top element of the "food lion".

Yeah, having looked at that logo I agree. It looks like they tried to incorporate lion claws into the crown on the idea fusion one and it is not bad for the idea fusion branding, but it looks way too marketing and not enough sports to be on uniforms/helmets.

I love the helmet, reminds me of the one Navy wore for the Navy-Army game. Not sure how I feel about the actual uniform though.
My count is three fonts in that picture...
1) ODU on the helmet.
2) "C*USA" font
3) Tron-Next Generation "OLD DOMINION" to match last year's chrome helmet number
Makes it a bit busy and clumsy looking to me. I'm sure with the new pants, it will look a little better.
Just like last year, we'll mix/match the colors of the tops/pants/helmets to get all types of combos. We'll look good, no matter what... if our defense shows up!

I like the new nerseys. As far as the different fonts making it look busy, maybe a little, but I don't think it will be that big a deal on tv as opposed to having a still image on a message board. Both the CUSA font and the OLD DOMINION font for that matter are official fonts and can't be changed (esp. conference font.) I agree that this jersey and the new test helmet in marre blue would look great w/the blue pants. I'm not yet sure how I feel about the new Navy style helmet, I need to see it paired with some other options. It kind of reminds me of a motorcycle cop helmet.
