List of 2013 scholarship football players not returning for 2014
Travis Nees
Rodney Adams
Elijah Jones (likely done with career due to blood clot issues- know for sure in July)
Dawalyn Harper
Brian Blackburn
D. J. Larkins
Phillip Martin (chronic wrist injuries)
Ray Marlow

The loss of these players helped open the extra slots that allowed UT to sign what seemed to be more players than expected in 2014

I had especially high hopes for Adams and Larkins. Adams just got caught in a logistical situation but Larkins seemed to be over his head. UT tried him at DB and WR and gave him almost preferred chances to take a lead role on D but it just didn't happen. Nees was seemingly physically over-matched. Marlow suffered an injury last year that may have affected his decision to return. I do not think he will be playing in the future. Blackburn was out of his league relative to his adjustment to the speed of the college game. This is why new QB signee Gibson appealed so much to UT due to his Elite 11 QB camp reviews for having such a very cool head under pressure. Phillip Martin was a very raw player but he might have been a contributor by his junior season.
