I know a lot who can squat more. Plus the deadlift is the last lift of the meet. You tend to be more tired.

Hard to believe, but I have a female friend that is from Memphis that became a powerlifter, and has those kind of numbers. I don't follow the sport but she's got to be one of the worlds strongest women now

A woman bench pressing 360 lbs is impressive.

Yea, I know 100% she has squatted 600 in competition, and the bench is somewhere around 350 but not sure the exact numbers. The three above look close

I'm assuming that's a high school powerlifting meet. No to be a kill-joy but those numbers, while impressive, aren't super impressive for a 242 lib. power lifter.

Really doesn't matter though, the kid's obviously strong.

My gosh! The back and forth debating about every little tidbit of information reported on this board is simply insane.

Can't we just say to the OP "Thanks for the information" and to Mr. Avery "Congratulations young man, we are all very happy you have chosen to be a Tiger," ?

What does the "MS" stand for? I am assuming Mississippi, but not sure. If it is Missieeippi, is this a state wide all inclusive championship or a High School Championship? Could use more details. Thanks.

I was really happy when we were able to land the Grenada duo.

I guess there can be a silver lining to the greatly improved recruiting at Ole Miss (and State too). Since they are grabbing higher talent out of state, they are leaving more of their talented in-state players available.

or maybe we got them because the didnt want to be SEC cannon fodder. 10 SEC schools had higher rated classes than OM. MSU out recruited Vandy (after Franklin gutted them). The mississippi schools wanted them, including southern miss but.......whatever.

So you are not impressed the kid won his weight division in the state power lifting meet. By the way those numbers are extremely impressive for an 18 year old. Especially that squat number.

Just a message to everyone, when you start trying to show your knowledge about an area by being critical, you are usually showing us how little you know about that particular subject. Sometimes better to not comment and "remove all doubt" if you know what I mean.

no lie, kinda makes you wonder

Grenada High School senior Genard Avery won the 242-pound division at the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Powerlifting Meet this past weekend. Avery, a Memphis signee, set three new state records along the way. It was the second straight state title for Avery

just sorta impressive. 03-lmfao

good grief

I guess you guys failed to read the last part of what I said, which was "really doesn't matter, the kid is obviously strong." And then the part before that where I said "obviously impressive."

Reading comprehension folks, it's pretty simple.

My only point was that in the 242 lb. weight class, there are some brutally strong individuals with insane totals. That is typically one of the more popular weight classes in powerlifting with serious numbers. Once again though, the guy is powerful especially for a kid in high school. I can only imagine how much higher his total will be as he gets in college.
