I have the scale and the blood work to back up that statement.

I am not surprised. Those heavy greasy meals were ok for our grandparents because they needed all those extra calories for the kind of manual labor people did in those days.

When people ask me how I lost weight, and what I took to do it, I tell them I went on a diet and and exercised. Their immediate reaction is a disappointed "oh, ok" look because they just want the easy way out... Pills.

Diets don't work. Sure, you might lose some weight but unless you change your lifestyle, you are simply going to gain the weight back plus more.

There is a reason why I am the fitbud. Because I know the way to stay slim is to change your life. A diet doesn't do that.

Yeah right. I haven't even started my normal exercising yet, I've just done some running or walking an hour or two per week until I get to my desired weight. So around the 1st of March, I was 239 lbs, now I'm at 220 lbs, and that's basically just from dieting, nothing else. 5 or 10 more pounds and I'll begin my intense exercising so I can get back to my desired mass... Diets definitely work. Especially when you start by not eating for 48 hours, it shrinks your stomach and you can't eat as much.

But what happens when you get off your diet?

You keep up with your normal routine of exercising. When I was in shape before I got an office job 4 years ago, I ate junk food all the time and always stayed in shape...

That works when you are young. As you get older, your body will not be able to metabolize food as well.

I've always been amazed that the obesity rate among the poor is higher than the general population. This is especially troublesome since it is less expensive to eat healthy than to eat crappy food. Compare the cost of a dozen apples to an equal amount of Doritos.

However, it is more expensive to buy whole foods than it is to by boxed meals. Good meats cost more than fatty cheap cuts. Have you seen how much fruit and produce cost these days? It's almost cheaper to buy fast food for each meal and skip the grocery store altogether.

Ever noticed how food prices go up when we have a Democrat in the White House? They want people to eat healthy, yet they put all kinds of restrictions on food producers which end up driving up the cost. Hence why poor people stay fat. They cannot afford good food.

It's why Walmart has lowered the price of their organic line.

The key is to not be lazy.

It has nothing to do with laziness. It has to do with diet and lifestyle.

So a lazy lifestyle is not a factor is being a fatass?

RE: Big Mama
When I was a teenager I worked at Braum's. There was a big black lady nicknamed big momma who worked the dairy case. We called her that and she liked it. That was her nickname. I worked back on the grill.

"Big momma. Are we out of pickles or is there another jar in the walk in?"

"You better go on back there and look now"

Exactly. The sandwich is built right in front of you, it never leaves your site, and there's absolutely no reason to put a name on it since the sandwich follows the order of the people in line.

I'm calling BS on this one.

RE: Big Mama
My weakness is carbs. I love carbs. Tortillas, bread, sweet bread, pretzels, spaghetti, noodles, etc. It's a wonder that I'm not heavy. I'm 6'3", 190 lbs. and my secret to staying trim is LIMIT those foodstuffs. Most mornings I'll eat an egg with whatever I feel like mixing it with in a tortilla i.e., a burrito (or as they're called in the east a taco). Coffee and a couple of homemade cookies. That's it until around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. For dinner I'll fix something simple like a bean, chicken, ground beef burrito, (I told you I liked tortillas, my wife calls me the 'burrito man' and laughs at my choice of food. Sometimes I'll eat a small can of peaches or a peanut butter jelly and banana sandwich, or an apple with some Muenster cheese slices and that's it. It varies.

The secret to staying trim is to not eat more than you burn, it's that simple.

Just so I'm clear, a teenage twerp writes something on a box that makes you cry, and your reaction is to hire a lawyer and go to the media.

We truly are doomed.

Absolutely not. My co worker is 300 lbs 6' 3" and he is one of the hardest workers I know. He just doesn't eat very well.

I wouldn't call teaching a physical job. Look at you, you're on this site when you're supposed to be teaching. Are you fingers getting tired?

You have no idea what you are talking about. Teachers work harder than a lot of people.

Perhaps, but it's not physical. And I do know. My wife is a retired teacher who went into counseling. So there!
