Backup plan?

I think it would be an amazing hire for the Herd.

He's only been a HC one year. I don't buy in on success after only one year. I view guys like this as just as big of a question mark as assistant coaches.

Could we have botched the MBB coaching search any worse than we have? Still no coach. I'd say that our 14/15 season is looking rather glum at the moment.

Marshall's recruiting must be in disarray .Delay is bad for Marshall and the conference as a whole.Boosters and fans should start putting pressure on the folks in power.NOW IMHO.

We only have one schollie to give. We've signed three but the two jucos signed are worthless and should not be playing D1 ball. Regardless who the coach is, this coming season will be brutal.

To be honest with Basketball with a few exceptions most jucos that are any good play the mandatory year and go to the NBA any that are not quite NBA ready will go to P5 schools. It is a rare diamond in the rough that would end up elsewhere.

Even if D'Antoni does come to Marshall 14/15 is a throw away. He might be able to get us to .500 but he needs two years to get his system in place and get the players that fit it. Translation 16/17 would be when we could expect big payoff unless he is a miracle worker.

Having said that, you are truly ignorant to the situation if you don't think we have a chance of getting him. IMO our chances go up by the day.

What once seemed like a dream, appears to now be the most likely scenario.

Well if he is named coach in a week or so be sure to come back over and...[Image: EatCrow1.gif]

What did I tell you? There was zero chance of it happening. I'm sure y'all will find a good coach, but D'Antoni was never coming to Huntington.

There was 100% chance if the Lakers had fired him. We didn't wait this long unless Mike had agreed to become coach if fired.

Marshall fans are very self-important. The fans of the new Conf USA schools will learn this soon enough.

Conference USA: where failed NBA coaches go.

Back in the day:
Louisville - Pitino
Memphis - Calipari
SMU - Brown

Current lineup:
UTEP - Floyd
Marshall - D'Antoni (rumored)

Current school, but wasn't C-USA at the time:
FIU - Thomas

Am I missing anybody?

I have nothing against Marshall fans. In fact, the Marshall fans at the FAU/MU football game this past season were all very nice and supported their team well.

That said, after I posted my opinion in this thread that I did not think D'Antoni would take the job (never once mentioning that it was because Marshall is a bad job/school/etc....I don't think any of that and thought I made it clear in my posts), I did receive a long and unnecessary private message from one Marshall fan on this board. In it, I was lectured on Marshall's history, the loyalty of their alumni, and who their boosters are...and then they proceeded to insult FAU as a school and our fan base for some reason (I never mentioned FAU in this thread). It is probably because of things like that a fan base would get a bad reputation.

Anyway, good luck with whomever you hire. There are still a lot of very qualified candidates out there.

Jeff Neubauer will be named the new Marshall basketball coach.

Good hire and he runs a fun system to watch and play.
